The Truth of Affiliate Marketing
When you first heard about affiliate marketing, you might have seen/heard from people about making a lot of money and how much freedom you will have. This is true. But, it is not that easy. It's never that easy.
In fact, affiliate marketing is hardest thing to do well in. It is not for the ones that don't have grit. It's not for those that don't have a burning desire to succeed. Because, it is a field that is so easy to give up in. With our world advancing so quickly and things getting easier everyday, no wonder a lot of people don't succeed.
Everyone wants instant gratification, and no one understands the hard work it takes. Affiliate marketing is no 'get rich quick' scheme. You don't just pluck money out of the tree here. It takes tremendous amount of consistent work. It takes constant learning, improving and catering your platform to what is required by your audience.
It is a business that requires your attention everyday. Because things change everyday. New customers or readers might come into your website and write something that needs your immediate attention. You need to build reputation.
If you don't have that, you simply won't succeed. It is not just about writing a ton of blog posts. If it was, anyone who could write would be successful. It is those who are able to consistently write blog posts, tweak their websites, input rich keywords, increase traffic and learn and develop their skills that will be successful.
I don't mean to write this post to scare anyone. I just merely write to open anyones' eyes so that you can see what it takes to do well. The good thing is anyone can do it. The cold hard though, not everyone does.

I feel you are very right about this. It also makes me feel like I don't know my niche as well as I thought I did because after 4 years, you'd think my website would be doing quite well. I will admit I haven't always been consistent though and I know that has definitely hurt me in the past. I've been working hard to change that now and the hardest thing has been and continues to be building up traffic.
I have earned some revenue from my website so it hasn't been a complete bust, but it isn't anywhere near the revenue I'm striving for and most of that revenue has come from Google Adsense with only a tiny few affiliate sales.
I plan on doing a lot more research because I need to see what is truly the kinds of problems people are having in my niche and see if there are any ways I can solve them instead of just writing lots of blogs of my experiences with a specific product.
I agree with you. Sometimes it is hard to pinpoint your niche exactly but the more you engage yourself into the website and start building content, the more you understand what your website is exactly about. It's great to hear that you're still plugging away after 4 years of hard work! This is what it will really take.
The fact that you've earned revenue shows that it works. And the amount of income is only upwards from here. How much is determined by the effort you put in. I love your comment here because it shows that you truly care about making your website better and are working towards it. I just encourage you to go through the trainings again and try to follow exactly as it says here. Sometimes rewatching and re-reading helps tremendously.

You're exactly right about that. I have started going through the training a second time and have already caught stuff I didn't fully catch the first time around and so it has already been beneficial. I plan to keep on moving forward.
