You Don't Have to Know Everything to be an Expert

You don't have to know everything about how to build a website to be an expert in your niche. You don't even have to know everything about your niche to be an expert. Chances are, you know a lot more about it than your visitiors.

If you are researching and using Google Alerts to know what's trending, you can find information and compile it for your readers. You show them you already did the work for them in compiling information. Just include a Reference list.

That's important to show you aren't taking information and not giving credit. You definitely want to avoid plagiarsm but your visitors will appreciate you did the work for them. All scientists take information from each other and reference it in their research.

That's basically all you have to do. To be an expert, decide who has credible information you want to use, create a reference list and post it after editing twice ;). Put the main ideas together in an article, and Voila! You have an article.

I invite you to share how you get information for articles.

Paula

I like this Paula. I like it because it's true. So true that we don't need to know everything about our niche and chances are, since there are so many angles on just about everything in life and each one of them debatable forever, we do know more than anyone else around.

Great wisdom.

Thank you, Joss. :)

I do my research for articles pretty much the way you mentioned, Palatia. Great advice, by the way. I search for the right people on several preferred channels, like Gaia, and I prefer youtube for searching than other social media platforms. Pinterest also has a lot of information, and it is important to keep the thread of where your knowledge came from.
You're right. Information seekers love that you did the work for them, that you've arranged it and prioritized the content into a way that they can dissect it and understand it better. This gives the author credibility and they are more likely to return once they recognize your work in the future.

Awesome, well put. :)

Great topic and good points to consider.

This is a very common delima - especially for someone new and just starting out with a website, a course, an eBook, book etc.

It is also a common insecurity for many people who have been at a given thing for years - the feeling of inadequacy, doubt and lack of expertise.

Yet in truth all one needs to do to be able to add value is know SOMETHING of value to his/her readers/listners/viewers/students or who ever it is that is receiving the imformaton in what ever format, can learn something from and benefit with that information.

Where do you get such information from?

- Personal experience and life
- Reading, researching and learning
- Other authorities/experts (interviews, reviews, and referral to their resources)

The differential element is YOU.

Even though we may both cover, teach and coach on the exact same topics - we are not the same.

That makes everyone unique in their own ways of sharing informmation and resources and that is how and why it is possible to have so many people successfully covering the same things - like real estate, content creation, - and even affiliate marketing.

Best regards,

L.D. Sewell

Thank you for expanding on the topic. :)

Good Day, Paula.

Thanks for your ideas on writing content. I like your take on how scientists share information.
I agree, and the same applies for all disciplines.

This is the "no-need-to-reinvent-the-wheel" theory, which brings us back to the concept of "research".

Research contains the complete body of knowledge for your niche.
The more you scoop into this jar, the more information there is about your niche.

You don't need to be an expert to begin, BUT, having said that, that's where that method of thinking should end.

Pick any niche.
Let's pick football.
Football is about 1. running, 2. passing the ball, 3. kicking the ball, 4. heading the ball, 5. etc.
Research each of these areas, "intensively", will teach the researcher, a lot.

This will produce tons of ideas for content.

Not too long ago, I was listening to a successful writer who said this, "I love doing research".

At that moment, a big light-bulb came on, and I understood the process of "researching" on a higher level.
This is also what great writers do.

It is working well for me, and I am focusing my efforts on improving my researching skills.

Paul

No, u don't need to do research to begin. But it sure sure helps.
