The Genealogy Guide Overhaul Complete . For Now!
Hi everyone,
I just wanted to let you all know that I have finished restructuring my site and redesigning my home page. It has taken me a week to do, (what with work and family commitments), and I am pleased with the results.
I was happy with the way my posts were progressing but I had let my pages suffer. Now I have refreshed them and added 14 new pages.
The reason for so many pages is because I have recategorized my posts and wanted them in their respective page.
As I have an informational site I want people to find what they are looking for fast and easy. A great plugin that I found is called Contents View which I have spread out over the home page and my other pages. It gives you a thumbnail, snippet and link to your post.
Rather than let me explain why not check it out for yourself:

Whether these improvements will help with rankings I don't know. But I'm pretty sure that the new layout will impress people visiting my site and hopefully then conversion will go up.
Why not check it out for yourself and let me know what you think. I'm interested to know.
Thanks,
Owain
Update: I just want to add that I really appreciate the comments that have been put on my home page. It was quite unexpected so thank you everyone.

Yeah, not only does it fit the purpose but it really has lifted up my site.
Before I was adding text links to new posts but now this is all done automatically.
Very nice...I've used Content Views before, and it's pretty neat!
I just updated my homepage as well. Hope you don't mind me sharing it here: https://stampcollectingspot.com
I built it using Elementor and the Fullwidth Page Template plugin. No coding, but it took me about 6-7 hours lol.
I had been searching for ages for a plugin like that. It really does the job.
Looks very professional your site. Are you making much money with it?
I know, it took me several months to find the right plugins to do the job. I'd been wanting to do that for sooo long.
I'm not making much yet...probably around $100+ or so in total, but then, it's not meant to be much of a money-maker anyway so....
Yep. Can I recommend reading...no wait, STUDYING like almost every single post on backlinko.com (there's not many posts, but boy are they good!), robbierichards.com, and just SEO in general? WA gives you a great education on SEO, but personally I found that learning from other sources helped a TON and I now have a very good grasp on SEO. And I think in your niche, that's what's going to help you take off.
I would also recommend getting to know influencers in the genealogy world - whether on social media or in real life. Better yet, both. That's what I've done in my niche and now I'm fairly well-known. :)
Thanks for the tips. I have tried to get out there, but what with work it's just trying to find the time to do it.
I have visited your site, Owain and think it is very good. I have commented on it for you also :)
wow. thanks. You have given me an idea. I have a copy of my genealogy that stretches back like some 500 years to the end of the Ming dynasty in China. Its in Chinese but I could translate them into English as a project.
