OMG I've Got Business
Hi all,
I've just been contacted through my website asking if I can link share with a company. I am exciting because someone outside of WA has found me and my site :-)
They contacted me because of my post about interviewing relatives to help build a family tree. The company who have contacted me specialise in helping people write their life story and offer many packages.
I have checked out their website and am convinced that I should ask for a commission. After all I am in this to make money.
What I am struggling with his how to word my response to them asking for commission ifsomeone goes through my site to them and gets their service. The person in question would have to say they came through The Genealogy Guide site.
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.
I feel like I have turned a corner and I am terrible excited about this and future ventures.

OMG...so EXCITED for you, Owen. Hmm..no one likes to talk about money 'for themselves'...yup...we have all been there.
Well..look at it from a biz standpoint.
Who knows, they may even propose the commission...just go with an open mind and meet with them...hear exactly what they want and take it from there...try not to 'speculate or calculate' too much until your foot is 'in the door' and you know their 'exact' needs. Good luck!

Owain, I think Jude's response is spot on. No point linking with someone, or company that may benefit from your work and you not get compensated. Politely bring up two things. The first would be the possibility of a commission and the second, if it is a company, would be becoming an affiliate, again with an agreed percentage for sales.
Great post. Good luck on the reply. Perhaps you could suggest a 'joint venture' where traffic from your site which leads to sales gives you a % per sale as mentioned below. I really like the concept of two people worthing together to achieve the same goal.
Just ask them politely what % commision they will be paying. All the best with this - sounds good :)
Perhaps start off gently....
Instead of asking them for a commission - ask them if they'll be paying you a commission?
Great news buddy! Reply to them however you feel like replying. Don't be afraid to ask them about the commission rates as you fully deserve it!
