Creating Clickbait Titles!

Lately I have been concentrating on creating clickbait titles such as:

- The 8 Best Genealogy Podcasts To Check Out!

- 10 Free Genealogy Sites To Check Out!

- 10 Ways To Find Your afamily History!

I just wondered what other people thought of using titles such as this. For me I think they sound more appealing for readers and will draw them in. As long as I don't mislead the reader I think that this will work.

These posts don't have affiliate links but I will be pointing them towards posts that do.

I am currently working on a new post that I originally titled 'You Can Get FindMyPast Records For Free!'.

Fleshing out the post I found four ways so then I retitled it to '4 Ways You Can Get FindMyPast Records For Free!'.

So which one to you is better? I like the second one but I just wanted to get other people's opinion.

Thanks,

Owain

I don't really find those to be clickbaity. To me, it would be more like this:

Not Clickbait: "4 Ways You Can Get FindMyPast Records For Free!"
Clickbait: "I joined FindMyPast Records for FREE, and You Won't Believe What I Found!"

Not Clickbait: The 8 Best Genealogy Podcasts To Check Out!
Clickbait: I Checked Out 8 Genealogy Podcasts and Was Amazed at What I Discovered!

Not Clickbait: 10 Ways To Find Your family History!
Clickbait: 10 Ways To Find Your family History and the Secrets They Reveal!

Just my opinion. Clickbait can be very annoying, but there is no doubt that it works.

You're quite right Craig. Marion below pointed out that it's not clickbait. I got my definition wrong.

Using numbers though do make it more appealing than without I think.

Thanks with coming up with clickbait titles for these examples.

It looks like good choices to me a title with authority.

Randy

Thanks Randy.

Numbers in titles are known to work well. You're on the right track. But they're not click-bait titles. Click-bait titles are usually misleading.

Thanks for that Marion. I should have done it sooner, but oh well. Also I don't want to overwhelm my site with titles like these.

I guess I misinterpreted what click-bait means, but I understand now.

Thanks again.

I've been contemplating a new game plan with my sites and this might be what I've been looking for. I get your concern about overwhelming the site with similar titles - especially since I've just done a Bing search on one of my keywords. It was eye opening to see how many high ranked articles have numbers in the titles.

I'm thinking of posting maybe once a week or so with a number tied article and see how that plays out.

Thanks for the food for thought!

I was just thinking to myself how many of my posts could have numbers in them. Seems like they all could if I wanted them to. But I'll have to refrain myself from doing that.

Why not change them? If that's your style then do it where you think it's appropriate.

Yep I will but I don't want to overdo it.

Hi Owain, I definitely like the new approach. The titles sound much more appealing and create a stronger desire to click!

Thanks mate. I knew it was the right way to go, I just needed confirmation. Wish I had done it before anyway.
