How do I change my domain name once I had purchased a new domain?
Do I have the ability to change my domain name?

A domain for your website. I have changed mine three times but it’s a hassle to do.

You will basically be starting all over. You will lose traffic and everything and if you have a decent amount of content on your current domain, you’ll then have the same content on the new domain, which I am now learning it may be duplicate content.

They say redirecting the old domain helps but I am finding out it’s more technical then that. Plus you may end up with broken links. Unless you have like Yoast Premium plugin.

You may end up with 404. Like I said I changed my domain three timess. It was worth it to me but a major hassle to deal with. I am still fixing lbroken links and duplicate content issues.

So I wouldn’t encourage you to change your domain unless you absolutely have too. And the only way you can do that is you have to buy a whole new domain. The other domain will remain effective until it expires.

I hope ithis helps

Thank you for your detailed response, I really do appreciate your feedback.
I Wanted to change my domain name because I felt that if I did so, it would allow me to broaden my topics, but I'll figure something else out. I don't feel like going through any technical issues.

You're welcome! I definitely understand that was the same reason I changed my domain name as well. Now, it did improve my rankings and traffic but, I just wanted to be honest with you, that you can change it, it just causes a lot of technical issues that you may have to fix.

I myself didn't know this so, I changed my domain and now I'm learning slowly how to fix the issues. In fact, I found out that I had the issue when I applied to Google Adsense and was denied three times due to scraped content.

I don't copy anyone so, this has to be the only reason that I have scraped content according to Google, and it's because Google is confused about who wrote what.

I have two domains with the same information on it. I do have my old domain being redirected to the new so my final conclusion is, there are technical issues now that I have to fix and yes it is a hassle.

Well, anyway, I wish you the best I know you'll figure things out.

@lakbar12, I don't want to bother u, but this will be my last question. I am considering changing my domain name and I think it will help add some extra oomph to my website.

So, when I buy my new domain name, what do I do again?
Is redirecting the new domain to the old domain name the only option or are there any other options besides redirecting?

I was just thinking, because I know that there is a way to take an old domain name and switch it with a new domain name without interfering with the links.
I'm not a coding wizard, but I was just thinking.

Oh no, you're not bothering me.

Okay so, I would research more information on how to change your domain name, just to make sure you cover all of your steps.

Changing the domain name is definitely not an easy task. It took me days if not weeks to fix the issue and I am still trying to fix some of it to this day.

Just make sure this is the best decision before changing anything.

Here is an article that I found that could help out.

Anyhow, this is what I did to change.

First, of all, you are going to want to back your site up.

I purchased the new domain name and redirected, the OLD domain to the NEW domain.

IF you don't redirect your old domain to the new domain anywhere you have shared your OLD domain name will become a broken link.

You will have to notify Bing, Google search console and analytics. You're going to have to resubmit your site map.

You'll have to update your SEO plugin, in all places that your domain name is in.

You'll have to update your domain name on your social accounts, emails, or anywhere that you have placed the domain name on.

I also had a record of my URLs that went to my old domain name written down just in case I needed them for the future. And apparently, I did. Becuase, you may need to 301 redirect some of your URLS>

If you have YOAST premium that plugin should automatically do it for you but with All-in-one SEO I have the upgraded version and it didn't do anything automatically for me.

Anyway, you'll have to update all of your affiliate programs and networks.

You'll have to change all of your social accounts.

It is a process so I would suggest that you make a list or a map of the process so you don't forget a step before I go through this process.

I hope this helps

Hi - no, unfortunately, you cannot change a domain name.

Hey guys, I have a question. I'm trying my best to get my website verified and I keep getting the message, "Ownership verification failed."

Can you please tell me why th

Which verification are you doing? If it’s for google analytics for example I put my ID in my All In One SEO plug-in.

I'm doing the Google search console verification

So in the General Settings of your All in One SEO plugin, look for the Webmaster Tools section. You’ll see a place for your Google Webmaster Tools ID. Paste it in there and save your changes. Make sure to paste just the ID not the html string.

It should lookssomerhing like this:

BFCiFeux36aFTUvxxxxFnl3Pes7pgADZ6-xeoyyyy4w

I just figured it out hahaha.....
I went to my Google Analytics and found the tracking code and copy and pasted the global site tag in my header settings smh.

thanks for the response!

Glad you’re all situated!

Do my affiliate disclosure need to be 100% unique, just asking because the Site Content/Editor, gives me a format to use, but its saying that it needs to be unique?
I just n

No. It shouldn't affect your rankings.

No it won’t be negatively affected. I have the exact same templates disclosure on all my sites and they rank fine. Ignore the warning and hit publish, you’ll be fine :)

thanks!

You are very welcome.

No..in fact my privacy policy and affiliate disclosures are ripped from various pages (took what I liked). You're going to mark those as do not index so they don't really matter in that respect.

Thanks! I appreciate it.

Any time!

I recently asked for questions on my website post, but the strange thing is that the post won't allow people to leave a comment on my website post. For some reason my about me

If you open up the relevant page and click on Screen Options, top far right of your screen, you can tick two boxes, Discussions and Comments.

If you then scroll down beneath the editor window, you'll see a new set of options where you can control whether comments appear or not. :)

You probably have comments turned off on that page or post. That's a simple setting. If you go to all pages or all posts, and quick edit, you should be able to see the area where you can turn comments on/off.

Thank you I really appreciate it!
