I have been slowly building out an ecommerce site that is still in the beginning stages.

I have been experiencing an add-on (~ by FVD suggestions ~) showing up on several

It sounds like the FVD downloader virus. I did a quick Google and found this instruction for its removal:

Big Oopsssidaisy!

Delete the theme and reinstall.

Learn how to create a child theme!!! Make theme changes to the child not the main theme.

http://codex.wordpress.org/Child_Themes

Hi Craig,

Thank you for responding.

I did as you suggested. Silly me, didn't think about deleting the theme from my choices of themes. Worked like a charm.

I've been wondering how to create a child theme easily. I'll definitely watch your tutorial.

Thank you so much for your help. It is much appreciated.

Have a great day : )

Hi Craig,

Since re-installing my theme, I've been trying to figure out how to save a child theme to a ftp site. I understand how it works with cPanel Hosting, but how does it work in WA? Where is the theme directory folder? I wish there was a tutorial for this process for child themes within WA Hosting. Do I need to Host elsewhere to have a child theme?

Thanks in advance for your advice.

Have a great day : )

No, you need to create the child theme through ftp though.

If Rod answer does not help create a support ticket they should be able to help

Hi Bill,

Craig had the answer to my problem.

Thank you for replying to my plea.

Have a great day : )

You can in the word press editor and choose your post and in the upper left corner you have a tab to choose previous version. You can also do the same with pages. This would have any lost material you are looking for. Hope this helps.

Hi Rod,

Thank you for your reply.

I went to the stylesheet editor, but I don't see a tab anywhere that says previous version. It's not only the styling for one post, it's the entire website css style that is missing.

Have a great day : )

Like call forwarding for your phone, I would like to automatically send a new domain name to a main site if that is possible within WA. Does anyone know if that is possible wit

You can also redirect from the inside the menu where you bought the domain . just log in where you bought the domain name and look for forwarding/cloaking under that domain menu options

Hi Daryn,

I'm looking into that information right now. I'm thinking this may be a better redirect since it's coming directly from the domain name site.

Thank you for your suggestion.

Have a great day : )

All I can add is yes

Yes, redirects are the go. When someone types in link-to-site-a.com, the first line in the index.html file re-directs the site to ThisIsWhereYouShouldGo.com and the person doesn't even see the switch on their page. Pretty cool stuff eh?

Hi Geoff,

Yes, it will be cool beans if I can get this coding thing figured out. I appreciate your response.

Have a great day : )

Yes you can do redirects with any hosting see this site for more info http://www.rapidtables.com/web/dev/url-redirect.htm.

Hi Maksim,

Thank you for your reply. I have skimmed through the resource you have provided for me. I appreciate the information. It looks like I'll be doing some experimentation today.

Thanks again and have a great day : )

If you get stuck let me know.

Thanks for the offer. I may have to take you up on that.

feel free to PM me

Can anyone let me know if WA allows .swf files on the server? I tried uploading to FTP and got a message stating permission denied and to contact hosting service for assistance

All good now?

Hi Bill,

The issue is still up for discussion. I sent Kyle a PM to see what his take is on it, but haven't heard back yet.

Thanx for your reply.

Have a great day. : )

the issue here is the permission for the app/program to access WA servers. Tech installed some license fee keys for me which threw up the same issue- but if SWF needs to access the server on each occasion it won't work...besides HTML is better! Good share though...best wishes, Andy

Hi Andy... Thanx for your response.

I'm not sure what you mean when you say "on each occasion". The .swf file is an animation banner built in Adobe Flash. I've checked YouTube on this and it looks like it is possible to include a .swf file in Wordpress but you have to upload it through FTP.

I know that WA restricts some plug-ins and other things, which this may fit into that category. It's a file that I built a couple of years ago in Flash and I would like to use it on my site, but probably won't be able to. I have not learned HTML5 for animation so that's not a possibility for me.

I also transferred the file to both a .mp4 and .mov file but the animation runs terribly slow and is a 2.6 MB file compared to the .swf file, which is only 168 KB.

I will post this question to Kyle/Carson and see if there's a way to upload it. If not, I'll try a different route.

Thanx again. Have a great day : )

Hi Randy... Thanx for posting a reply. I'm thinking .swf files are probably not incouraged by WA. I know that .swf files are not supported on apple mobile devices. HTML5 is taking over where flash left off for mobile connections.

Have a great day : )

Wish I could help!

Hi Ed,

Thanks for your reply.

Such a shame that Amazon seems to be a bit greedy. It looks like there are some work arounds for getting some commissions from my daughter's orders, but not without bothering other family and friends to do so. It's not worth the hassle of inconveniencing someone else for me to make a buck.

I might just try it on my website and social sites, when I get them up and running properly, just to see how it all works out.

I appreciate your input. It's great that we can learn from others experiences here at QA.

Have a great day : )

They can actually go through your affiliate link regardless of where it is. It doesn't have to be on your actual website, you could email it to them, you could share it on Facebook, etc.

Amazon offers a 24 hour cookies so from the time they click your link to the time they purchase would also need to be within 24 hours.

As Jim stated though, they are very good at "tracing" activity back to you and if they determine that either you are someone you know is joining through your affiliate link, you won't get credit. Don't get them to buy stuff from your house in other words, email them the link or get them to visit your website.

Hi Kyle,

Thank you for your reply.

Amazon seems to be a bit of a stinker ehhh?

My daughter, who lives with me, makes purchases through Amazon quite often. What a bummer to not be able to get some commissions there.

I appreciate your expertise advice and I will take your advice and work through social media and email for any Amazon linking.

Have a great day : )

Kyle, I had my brother (who lives in another state) order something from Amazon through my site banner. They would not pay a commission because he is family.

Hi Jim,

Wow!! That is totally bogus.

Yes, they do have to go through your link/banner on your website and purchase something for you to get credit. You will find out, like I did recently, that Amazon will not give you credit for family and friends if there is anything that links you to them.

Hi Jim,

Thanks for your reply.

That's a bummer. I guess I shouldn't be surprised. So that means you can't buy anything from Amazon yourself and get credit for it either.

Have a great day : )
