You turn on your laptop and start your day on Wealthy Affiliate. You read about all the success stories about members achieving 100 thousand views on YouTube, making a 5 figure income, $40k in 4 hours, going to Vegas, 100 days an Ambassador and more. You wonder to yourself whether you will achieve anything close to that level of success.

When you take a very hard look at yourself are you being honest about what is really holding you back from being your best self.

Let’s investigate what could be causing you to lose steam and as Cassi my mentor said recently let's change your script.

1. You're Lazy

Yep, I said it. Because you need to hear me. You have to put in the work. You cannot expect to spend a couple of minutes here and there and expect to see results. Our online marketing businesses require sustained effort and focus. If you are not prepared to dig in then it’s best you dive out and find something else. Remember this is a business so take it seriously.

2. You Keep Asking "Why Not Me?"

We have a Trinidad saying that says, ‘don’t be farse and outta place’ meaning don’t meddle in other people’s affairs. If you take up all your time trying to figure out special tricks and tips that you believe give other members success then you are wasting time. Certainly, take advice and learn lessons but make your own path, do your training and stop comparing yourself to others.

3. You Never Get Past the Idea

Do you have brilliant ideas that are running around in your head however you have not been able to take the necessary action to make the idea a reality? What’s missing? A plan and action. You need to set out the steps, identify the resources you need, anticipate any problems you may encounter, outline your budget. Do these and you will get past the idea paralysis.

4. You're Spending Too Much Time on Social Media

I want you to think about how many times you are distracted or interrupted by the notifications on your phone? One study said that Americans check their phone 262 times in one day – that’s once every 5.5 minutes Where do you stack up? Don’t get me wrong if you being on social media is towards engaging your community and followers on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and so on fine. However, if you are constantly listening to a frivolous video or some form of instant tabloid nonsense you be the judge in how you allocate your time

5. You Fizzle Out before You Get the Job Done

Why have you not yet finished your Online Entrepreneur Certification? What about your WA Bootcamp? How many times have you started and stopped before completing the training? Are you cultivating a finishing mindset and habits? Be persistent, constant and drive to completion. It’s not a 100 m dash but you will feel better achieving than falling short of your goals.

6. You Over Stress the Small Stuff

In no way am I saying that you should not want excellence but is the position of your logo in your footer being 3mm off where you want it that important? Is obsessing with improving an AIOSEO score of 99 much different than 100? When you have to put in a huge effort for an imperceptible or infinitesimally small change then you need to think again about whether it is worth it.

7. You are Stuck in Your Comfort Zone

Do you believe in yourself? Why do you never venture out of the safe zone? How are you expecting to grow if you never try a new approach? Don’t let misplaced fear paralyze you into inaction. Believe in yourself. Take small steps at first. Grow your confidence and then get out there and show me what you got.

8. You Keep Running after the Money

So when you are truly honest with yourself you are in to make money, fast on your way to becoming the next millionaire, If you start off this way more than likely and I got the stats to prove it, you are going to fall way short of your intended mark. When you look at the most successful people they love what they do and most are not fixated on just the money. They want to deliver a quality product or outstanding service. Something they and other around them can enjoy. Find your passion and you will feel like you are not ever really working.

9. You're Not Passionate

Nelson Mandela said “There is no passion to be found playing small--in settling for a life that is less than the one you are capable of living." When you love what you do you are going to have more energy in those difficult moments and remain inspired to wake up tomorrow.

10. You Haven't Established Goals

You operate by vaps. You wake up every day and blow as the wind blows. Working without a plan is like going to sea on a ship without a compass, sail and rudder. You are going to run adrift, end up on rocks, or get hopelessly lost. Your business will not go anywhere without a plan. And your plan does not have to be a 200-page book. Set out a small plan and work down short goals. Then create new ones.

11. You Think You Can Do Everything On You Own

If you think you are a Superman or Superwoman and can do everything on your own I caution you to rethink this position. Just about every successful person has someone with them or behind them. They know that to maintain their sanity, not injure themselves (eye strain, carpal syndrome, back issues, etc), and to enjoy their success they need support, like a partner.

Why do you think you are losing steam?

Till next time,

Hugh

Right now I have more than ONE iron in the fire. I have to have everything on SLOWCOOK in order to maintain CONTROL.
i am excited that Google has found me. I don't want to waste the GOLDEN opportunity, so I am trying to maintain regularity, even if it is only one day a week.

I like my cook 'well done' as well lol. You are on the right track Shirley so keep tooting on.

WOW, Hugh!

This should be mandatory reading for all aspiring entrepreneurs everywhere. You summarized very lucidly not only what is necessary to succeed, but also the traps that can hold one back.

Every one of these 11 points resonated with me. The one that really stood out was #11. Let me tell you why.

I joined a weekly business coaching program about a year ago. One of the founders, who is a good friend, agreed to check out my affiliate marketing website. He then challenged me to build a team to help me because he could see doing it alone was my biggest hurdle.

Even though I had done a very good job with my website, he could see I needed to write more articles. And I was having problems doing that all by myself.

There is also the aspect of getting the SEO ducks in a row. Others could do that for me.

Here is the decision I have to make. Should I wait until I start to earn an income before building this team? Of should I do build a team first. What would you recommend? (A team could be just one person who I work with.)

Thanks for writing this amazing article. I have bookmarked it for future reference.

All the best to you.

Edwin

Hey Edwin

I did a 3-hour interview with a leader in the FinTech space. He dropped a lot of gems. I have to transcribe the interview and break it down into part 1 and part 2 of 10 minutes each after developing a storyline. Have you ever transcribed? It can get pretty tedious particularly when you have to insert timestamps etc. The point being is what is the value of your time? Do you think it is best spent doing the very basic tasks or more knowledge-related work? Can you farm off some of these tasks?

- site design, SEO audit and repair, social media graphic design asset creation, content creation/ posting, responding to basic service queries, audio/video production and editing etc. etc.

So yes I firmly believe in getting 'just in time' help. Help as required for the projects in front of me to improve my efficiency and effectiveness. One 3 hour transcript could take me days to juggle amidst other work. If I sent it off to someone I could get it back in 24 hours. These types of interventions make a positive difference and have a cumulative flywheel type of effect on your overall performance.

Also If you have a very good EA or PA and you have the budget this can also be amazing depending on your workload.

Hope this helps and thanks much for the big shout-out.

Hugh

Thanks so much Hugh!

In reading someones else post I understand clearly what must be done, I am so glad I reached out to you before this excellent post.

I am in that position you have outlined in this post. I am glad to be a part of this community.

Thank you for sharing.

Keep on believing in your potential Liz

Nice piece! I can relate to some of these, especially the issue with social media. I tend to scroll on my social medias too often. But I am trying to work passionately without stressing too much on money or not money. I've always loved writing and I can do it just as a hobby.
The rest, we'll see.

Thanks for sharing this.

Maja if you are passionate about writing sounds like you already have practice with some of the heavy lifting that is needed for success. Wishing you well.

Thank you for sharing this Hugh! I agree, it's too easy to get distracted by frivolities on social media, and trying to work out others success. Fortunately, I haven't run out of steam so far, and really enjoy the whole process. Yes, making money is certainly important to achieve my goals, but, I'd definitely run out of steam if I didn't!

Very inspiring to know that the wheels on your train are still churning full speed. I know that you are working hard and for that success will certainly be a stop ahead.
