What The Niche Am I Doing? How I Got Started

I joined WA premium a couple of months ago now, and while I've come a long way since the very beginning, it was ALL about the 'niche' at first....finding the best niche for you, and feeling excited about choosing one. Then came the indecision. I chose the forex trading niche, and created a website with SiteRubix, and a few days later in a state of 'I need to hurry up with this', I bought my domain for it. I ultimately decided to start with that because it's what I already KNOW about, and could write about without having to do much research.

A few days after that I thought, wow, I'd really like to do THIS niche also (sports), so I started another website, even though I know nothing about sports, really. I found some great products to promote, and I thought, THIS might be a more lucrative niche to get into. So I went ahead and bought my domain for that as well. I thought, well why not 'diversify' and get several 'niches' going?

Then, in the course of going through the WA training, I came across the WA affiliate opportunity within WA itself. I had not considered that before, because I felt I knew next to nothing yet about WA. 2 months in, I felt I really had something to say about it, that came from my own experience. So I started ANOTHER website, and another niche....'working at home'. I bought the domain for that also.

Here A Niche, There A Niche, Everywhere A Niche

So now I am suddenly faced with having to manage 3 sites. I must admit, I am not the most disciplined person in the world, and there is a part of me that hates to 'follow the rules'. There is that part of me that thinks 'oh, I can do this my own way'. Well, sure you can do things your 'own way', but in the case of training and learning a new 'craft' if you will, there is a reason things are done in a certain order.

My bad habits and lackadaisical tendencies, my 'non linear' thinking, has now caught up with me and is biting me in the heels. The last few days I have been emotionally 'pummeled' with the realization of what I've done, ie, not follow the training completely step by step, instead I jumped around, got ahead of myself on a few things, and rushed into buying 3 domains lol.

The moral of the '3 domains' is, choose ONE NICHE for now, and just stick with SiteRubix for a bit, until you are really clear on what you want, and are clear about the NAME of your website, since the NAME of your site will be reflective and representative of the niche you choose. You might need a few weeks or longer to 'get clear' on that. Once you buy your domain, the name you choose will be final! So don't do what I did....RUSH INTO EVERYTHING!

Changing My Mind About My Primary Niche

It's only when we stew in emotions and don't press for a resolution for it in some way, that things can turn into something worse, like, giving up, and remaining in an emotionally unresolved state. Confucious says something like this:

'A man who has committed a mistake and doesn't correct it is committing another mistake'.

When that happens, we just 'bury another frustration' and lose an opportunity to grow. 2 days ago I didn't know how I was going to proceed. Which niche should I focus on? How am I going to write 2 posts A WEEK to keep up with what's required, or suggested, for optimal results?

I was feeling overwhelmed, a little pissed at myself, and even a feeling of wanting to give up. I observed these feelings like a hawk watching ants crawling on the ground. I knew I wasn't going to give up, but those feelings were there. So what do I do next? I need clarity.

This morning I wake up and think, maybe I can write about what I've been going through, although I don't know what I'd really say about it. So I simply began typing.
And the words started pouring out, just like that.

Writing As Therapy, Along With Promoting Your Niche!

There's a saying about writers, 'writers write, always'. This means to me, that, even if you don't know what you're doing, even if you aren't completely researched, you can start writing anyways and create a first draft. Let's face it. If we are going to be affiiate marketers, we are going to be writers! and it doesn't matter how many mistakes there are, or if it seems like gibberish, what happens is, it gets the creative juices flowing, and ideas start to rush forward.

Now that I've decided to focus on a 'primary niche', and let the 2 others go for now, I've also been coming up with new post ideas for it, as the thought of writing 'hundreds' of posts under one niche, seemed impossible to my mind a few days ago. I was trying to imagine writing hundreds of 'work at home' types of posts and my mind went kablooey. That means, it exploded.

Today, after getting through the last few days, I do have a new clarity, along with a resolution to begin at the beginning again, so, for myself, I need to revisit what I skipped through in the training or did not complete, and 'fix' the mistakes, which are now causing me to lag behind a bit. It's not that there are any rights or wrongs, per se, but what I'm saying is, I am recognizing the tendencies I have which undermine my success. Because I really do want this to work!!

Strengths And Weaknesses : Know Yourself!

In deciding to become a Wealthy Affiliate so to speak, we are starting a new business, and as such, we are going to come up against 'ourselves' more than anything else. Each of us has different strengths and weaknesses, and I feel we must be brutally honest if we are to succeed!

Even though WA offers the complete package for becoming an affiliate marketer, if we don't use it properly, or let our bad habits or 'attitudes' get in the way without getting a conscious grip on it, all the training in the world will not help us to succeed! We can sabotage our own progress. I can say this with a lot of authority, because I know I have done this to myself in the past, with other endeavors that I took on.

When you feel like giving up, ask yourself, WHY exactly. This is where the brutal honesty part comes in. We have to be our own shrink and get the answer, and we can DO this! The other opportunity we have here, is to talk to other members, for support and encouragement.

I found out that, with the 'niche' debacle, that I have a tendency to avoid commitment by spreading myself out too thin. I realized that I am impatient. I jump into things too quickly. I now am going to 'wait' until I have more clarity about an issue. I will work on building 'new' habits, and keeping it simple, and that will not only help me to succeed with WA, but also be a happier person in having let go of some unconscious behaviours!

And, that about wraps up the spontaneous stream of consciousness blog I had no idea I was going to write until this morning. I hope this might offer a bit of insight, especially for newbies like myself!

Hi Olivia,
My niche decision was easy for me! It is where my passion is and what I have done professionally for many years! Even though I am old enough to retire, I do not want to retire! Just retool to another approach! I hope that makes sense! Good luck to you!

Well, Olivia I do believe we are kindred spirits! I see myself in your writing about Your Niche. And I will pull myself back and follow the training as it is presented to me so I don't roll off the cart. Thanks so much for being here to support the rest of us. Your words are very inspiring and hit home! Hoping we will be working on this WA platform together often. Best of luck on your success.

Hey, thanks for the comments, much appreciated. I'm happy you made the leap to WA, so yeah, we can definitely all help each other out here, now and for the long haul. Yep, I def rolled off the cart and am now reeling myself back in lol:)
