Business Registration With Your Government For Your Affiliate Marketing Work?

Hello WA Family,

Just thought of sharing this.

I was earlier worrying about whether I need to register my website as a business since the intent is to earn affiliate sales via my blog.

Well, in the country that I am operating, I figured out from the relevant agency that it is necessary that I register my business.

I guess the "good thing" is I am not earning anything yet so I am not contravening any regulation.

There are many new things to figure out as we start a business, especially when we are new.

But having a goal to be successful as an entrepreneur is bound to be like this. In fact, these are valuable experiences as we set our goals in MOTION.

The concept of precession suggests that the idea is not so much about focusing on the goals, but on the gifts that you gain along the way as you set your goal in motion.

I never really thought that I need to register a business. It never occurred to me although I should have. But that's precisely an experience. And the OEC course doesn't mentioned this which I suppose is still fine since it is just teaching us the craft on how to go about doing affiliate marketing. But perhaps maybe this should be mentioned somewhere in the course.

Anyway, have you checked whether the business you have setup here via Wealthy Affiliate needs to be registered with your government or the country you are operating from?

Perhaps something to be checked to be compliant.

Cheers

Richard

Yes Richard my business is registered with the taxman. Was done with my first business 10 years ago.
I registered before I started earning mainly because here in the UK, I know they check facebook mainly and other social media sites and the big selling sites, for people running businesses here in the UK.

Hi Linda, thank you for sharing. Just wondering, if I may ask to learn more from your experience. I believe you might have multiple websites? If so, when you register your business and whenever you have new websites created, do you need to update the taxman (or some government websites) what websites you own?

I do have multiple websites and no they don't all need to be registered separately as far as I know, they just want tax paid on any earnings. I make sure to keep all receipts for everything , all outgoings and income, nothing left out.
They rarely check with so many small businesses but if they do find a discrepancy, you had better have everything for the last 7 years because they will then check back. Which I do, all filed neatly.
Its the best way. Always best to register once you have a business even if you aren't making money.

Great Advice. Thanks, Linda!

Yes, Richard, we mustn't cheat the taxman out of our hard earned income! 🙄 Great advice. Enjoy the rest of your day!

Jeff

Hi Jeff, indeed! I think I am quite lucky to have thought about it to check before I proceed further. :)

Very true, Richard!

In the US, you don't have to register your business unless you want to do so. There are pro's and con's to each side of that decision; best to consult your accountant and lawyer to see what works for your personal situation.

No matter what, however, you must declare your income and pay taxes as appropriate. It is the responsibility of the merchants and affiliate programs to issue a 1099 if you earn more than the threshold with that company, but even if they fail to do so, you must nevertheless declare the income.

Hi Jeannine, thanks. I see, that's probably more flexible.

Richard,

If you have concerns about working with WA and if you have to obligate to legal documents within your country. You should speak to an accountant and get the professional advice you will need. But I know one thing, here in Canada and many other countries, you to declare your earnings from any online business as part of your Net Income for that given years.

Regards,
Joseph

Hi Joseph, indeed, declaring earnings is obvious. Just that, being salaried most of my life means all these tax matters are sorted out automatically by my company that such thought processes when starting your own business doesn't come instinctively, but more of a realisation along the way.
