Firstly, I recommend you work in a niche that you're truly passionate about and that also has plenty to write about too.
It's also necessary to have the answers to specific questions that searchers are looking for.
For example, I can't imagine that anyone ever types "cheap technology deals" into a search engine, so it really isn't a niche, more just a category.
I was thinking of starting a top 10s website to showcase currently the best products in any given category. My niche to start off with would be to centre the site around techno

It sounds very broad to me, you might struggle to get your content ranked if it is too vague around a topic!
