Shadow on the Earth
This phot above has to be one of the most backwards places i have had the displeasure of knowing. It lies about 5 miles from me and is a place called Addiewell in West Lothian, Scotland.
Now this area, beliebve it or not, was wherre Parafin oil was discovered by James Paraffin Young who discovered cannel coal in the area which led to a revolution in Shale mining.
Sadly, this is West Lothians Claim to Fame, even though anything worth keeping, we just bulldoze But for the sake of 'Conservation and heritage' we decide to keep the Red Shale slag heaps known as Bings to remind us that it was actually us who discovered how to screw the earth up by mining. What a claim to fame eh.
Addiewell, known by its nbred locals as 'Dykes' (for reasons i know not and probably dont even want to.lol) was at one time surrounded by coal, iron and shale mining and has still never moved on from the dark ages of the Victorian Times.
Welcome to Hicksville Uk
In the 1990s i read a local newspaper article where a family had moved there from nearby New Town Livingston only to be terrorised by the locals who were smashing their windows and scratching their car,etc
The moronic part of the article was when i read the 'Other side of the story' from some hick who had probably never left there in his puff. He said that he was not happy about outsiders coming in and that he would proudly smash windows and do what it takes to run them out.
What a shit kicker!
They actualy built a high security prison just about quarter of a mile from the village. ha. They deserve each other.
In the Movies
Anyway, by pure chance last night, i was on youtube when i stumbled upon this old film which was set in this very village. It was actually quite well made and was a true reflection of what the inbreed people here are like even to this day, although the movie was set in the 1950s.
Anyway, here's the movie. Hope you enjoy!
