Salute! 2020 Celebration

Ringing in the New Year! We salute and celebrate 2020 with a big huge bonfire and a Bon Voyage. I'm happy to see this year go. Although we achieved so much, there were more road blocks than welcome signs.

Goodbye 2019, helloooooo 2020!

I've been reading up and contemplating the California law AB5 to be in effect tomorrow and probably til September if it can be amended then. Basically, it makes challenges for freelancers and has specific language for marketers. It defines the difference between contractor and employee to enforce corporations to pay taxes, social secirity, unemployment and worker's compensation. While it is allegedly intended to protect the erosion of American middle class, it directly affects Californian marketers and writers.

What does California have to do with the world? Let me ask my neighbor who migrated from there to Idaho...

I watched a multistream on the topic via Cheddar, just trying to understand the rationale and who may be endangered or relieved by this administrative bill. Gig workers anonymous is forming on the underground, ha!

Other states, including New York have adopted similar laws.

This limits the amount of articles one can write for an organization and not become part of their company by officially hiring them in house. After 35 yearly publications, the contractor is then on the census of employees for that company. There goes the outsourcing for weekly newletters ahem.

Wealthy Affiliate maybe immune due to the fact we pay a puny tuition and in the Open Education, it is a virtual university. But as I research more, it is a little unsettling who this can effect.

  • writers
  • contractors
  • Uber & Lyft workers (who are suing)
  • health care prn workers
  • consultants
  • truckers

Will legal begals be able to sort this out in time to keep families fed?

Then something tells me an angry bunch of truckers forming a riot of protest is not a great way to start a new millennium...

Is there the potential it makes new markets? Absolutely! There is always that potential. For some readers, this may sound like a greedy mindset, but I mean it sheerly in a brainstorming way. I won't join any debate on whether AB5 is good or bad, as I can see it harming or protecting and that would be circumstances of each individual.

Aside from brainstorming and ranting both ways with myself about this law, bringing in the new year free from corporate pecking order sounds exciting.

There are citizens who pride themselves in not working the banker Dolly Pardon hours. Some who could not meet the needs of diverse family situations without flexibility of side gigs making up their main gig. Now I can see through all illusions of bragging rights, there are always upsides & downsides; pros and cons.

And some laws are made for cons which affect abiding people who would have never made the conflict that suggest a rule is needed.

While I watch the dancing flames tonight, thinking of one lady writer who forged career against the odds. She Geeked out over the guys who may have thought they trumped that market. Feeling a warmth only a good fire can bring clear to the bones, I will contemplate this more. Gotta have some grace for gumption and guts.

Salute to ladystrength; it takes some determination to make a living in tumultuous circumstances. I know she is genius enough to think of something else to do for work that is just as rewarding.

But what about the displaced people who are not? And those who don't have proverbial brass nuts to speak out about it?

Please pardon my new year rant, but this explains the influx of Californians. And does not support freedom of the press. It makes a tax on it for freelancers, affiliate marketing, digitial entrepreneurs. It will involve revamping other laws. Will it comfort some who may cost 30% more to run a business and have the fall back without as much connundrum of subrogation? Well a better question may be how many licks does it take to get to the center of the tootsie pop?

On the bright side, I found a local business who were paying out the wazoo for advertisement, hosting and website which had expired SSL certificate and no sitemap entered in Google. A dream idea to advertise the insurance compainies on a paid ad on their site...the companies who help home owners afford the tree removal and care. Even though it's just a volunteer gig at the moment, I'm excited to help a family owned business whose son is going to Afghanistan to fight for America. And introduce them to Wealthy Affiliate.

1. Please tell me if you're lighting a fire or candle tonight in celebration and salutes. I love comments from WA family, including the squirrel counsel.

2. Mash the green like if this is likable to you!

Sincerely,

Nurse Becca

Likewise! I hope your New Year is Amazing:)
I wasn't sure if brass nuts are politically correct but I have some of those synonymous with backbone 😁💝

It’s OK by me brass nuts ...
TIM

😂🎆 haha too funny!

No, Tim, their government IS nuts!

Jeff

California is full of progressive Liberals who think they are ahead of the curve and smarter than the rest of us mere mortals who do not dwell in their tinsel town fastasy world.

So glad I am moving 6,400 miles away from the Kardashians and Californians of the world.

Thanks for sharing Becca and a prosperous and Happy New Year to you and yours.

Making a living, making a difference.
Mark

Lol!!! You're welcome

Your ranting was just fine.
Here in little Ohio we don't have the government dictating ways to smash small business thankfully.
Ohio and Columbus specifically promote small businesses very well. I have California friends moving to Nevada and many other parts of the country to get out of the tax and homeless issues with no end in site.
Like your self, I have happened on several offline businesses needing marketing online and gotten good business that way, but still moving along with my own online sites.

I wish you a Happy and prosperous New Year!

That is amazing, you're example of helping out offline biz! I hope the people get a good home too. I just read Amazon opened a homeless shelter in Seattle. Maybe they could stay there and start an Amazon affiliate website🙂
I learned Texas lets new biz get out of state taxes for 2 years. Maybe Cali could adopt that bill instead

Thanks. I doubt Cali will consider anything the voters want per many friends I have there.
Take care.

As much as I wish that ain't true they probably are a better source for that info...
Will do, you too!
