Do you have a strategy for when you send a customer to Amazon and when you send them elsewhere?

It's said time and time again, don't rely on Amazon for all your sales. I

i would say it all depends on how much your niche trusts you.
most affiliates start with amazon - because it is easy and they take on most - yes they have cut their rates recently- but they do take over 50% of online sales....
if you start sending people to smaller independants where they have to work to get the product you are going to see losses in sales and people not coming back to your site - you will need to really justify going away form amazon - like price or delivery or in stock ( especially at the moment)
but they will need to have a good reason to take the card out their pocket and enter the details...
or at least i know i would.
so if you can really justify it then send them elsewhere if not maybe put up with the low rates and try to get more traffic through your site to make up for the low rates....
good luck

It depends on how many affiliate networks are you a member of?

I know that Amazon is the largest online store and everyone is afraid to drop it because of the conversion rate.

However, what is the average conversion rate associates experience? It's usually about 15% which combined with their recent slash in rates is definitely not much.

I'd recommend going for the higher % since it's better to get only 10 sales but in return make a decent amount of money rather than having to chase 100 sales or more to make a decent amount of money.

ShareASale is a great affiliate network that has thousands of affiliate programs you can join, including local chain store affiliate programs such as Target.

If you can turn towards digital products, I'd recommend doing that as it's a lot safer option.

I always send them elsewhere. It's a principle thing. Amazon is abusive to its affiliates, its employees, et al.

But if you must, I would only send them there when you can't find any other vendor on your program, and when the total cost of the item is below $50 or so. Above that, most vendors these days offer free shipping.

That is a great question and sorry I don't have an answer. I am very interested in knowing myself.

Most people I know that shop on line is usually Amazon or eBay.

For me I send them elsewhere when I want to make more than a fraction of what Amazon paid last month. Amazon has lowered affiliate commissions as low as 1% which is sad since affiliate built them. If you want to make real money join Awin and Share-a-sale and forget Amazon exist.

When to not send someone to amazon?

Do you guys have a ready made message that you send to companies to request to be an affliate for them when you can't find if they have a program? Do you mind sharing you messa

Hi, this may give you an idea of how to do It: All the best.

To be honest, if you can't find a program for them, through google, networks or on their site they probably don't have a program and it is very unlikely that they would set one up just for you etc.

When you go their website all the down at the bottom of the page near where the contact info is. You should see a link that says affiliate, just click that one and you can sign up somewhere around there.
