Becoming a Super Affiliate Is Hard Work!

When I applied to join Kyle's Super Affiliate Challenge, I didn't expect to be accepted. So it came as a surprise when I was.

My initial idea was to continue working on an affiliate marketing site (http://webbizkb.com) that I've had for several years in an attempt to give it more authority and boost its rankings.

I contacted Kyle and he suggested I'd be better off creating a completely new site. So I took his advice.

I normally self-host my WordPress sites but with this new site I decided to build it on the SiteRubix platform to see how it compared to sites I build on my own webserver.

Already, I much prefer the SiteRubix setup and wish I'd built some recent sites on it instead. At some point I'll look at how to move those sites over to SiteRubix.

But, to the new site... I've had mixed success building mailing lists over the years. It's also something I didn't put enough thought and planning into as I concentrated on other things online.

So, for the new site, I decided to create one dedicated to list building and email marketing techniques (https://emaillistbuildingtechniques.com). It's as much a central repository of information for me as well as my readers. In the first month of the Super Affiliate Challenge, Kyle set a goal of writing and publishing 12 articles on our sites, one of which was to be a Wealthy Affiliate review.

That's the article I started with and I wrote about 2,000 words in that review. My subsequent posts have all had between 1,500 and 2,000 words as well. They take days to write and then I have to find and prepare images to use in the posts. Some also have videos.

I'm averaging one of these posts per week. It's too slow. I've now got 10 posts on my site but at this stage of the training, I should have about 20-21. I can't write 3 such posts per week, even following Kyle's writing efficiency suggestions. It means I haven't even got to Lesson 2 which dropped on March 4th.

I don't simply write off the top of my head. There's a fair bit of research that goes into my articles and that research takes additional time. It's how I'll eventually become an expert on this topic since I'm not one now.

Within 2 weeks of my site going live, it was ranked #1 on page 1 of Bing. I thought that was a pretty phenomenal result for a brand new site. It stayed there for several weeks. But when I checked my recent rankings in Jaaxy, it was nowhere to be seen. It dropped like a stone out of the Top 100 sites. I've no idea why. I expected the ranking to jump around a bit but not to completely disappear.

I haven't been able to get a single referral to Wealthy Affiliate since the Challenge started (I only ever got 3 in my 2 years here at WA and none of those upgraded to Premium). This is despite me also promoting the program on Instagram, Facebook, Google+ and in Facebook groups.

I've set the framework for my site and have hundreds of keywords I could write about, but the problem is I don't currently know enough about those keywords to write an article. So more research is needed...and more time.

I'm not getting as many comments on my posts as I'd like either. I've always had this problem in WA, not just with my new site. I don't know if it's because of my writing style or because the topics of my posts don't appeal to many people.

I'm in this for the long haul but it's proving harder than I'd anticipated. Time to complete tasks is the real issue. Knowledge will come in time and perhaps better efficiency will too.

But as they say: "No pain, no gain!"

I'll get there eventually! :)

You have the right attitude about getting it done.

With efforts and determination it can be done!

Congrats on joining the Super Affiliate Challenge.

I'm now encouraged to write more content until I reach

that goal.

Great Online Journey!

Enjoy the SWAG!!!

I wonder if it's a left brain right brain thing? From your Profile it's pretty clear you are inherently a left brain person ... logical, analytical, rational, etc. Right brain folks are intuitive, holistic, random, etc.

As Bill Maher (I'm a fan) would say ... I don't know this for a fact, I just know it's true. It's easier for right brain folks to become volume writers than left brain folks. Us left brainers (I am one) have to train ourselves to become volume writers.

I also believe that left brainers trained to be be volume writers can become very compelling writers and that leads to quality content. Just saying.

Patience and persistence is the key here Gary. So at first you're not meeting the content volume criteria set by Kyle. Keep after it as you are doing and the volume will come.

Oh ... and another point. Both Kyle and Carson are Computer Science graduates from the U of British Columbia. Do you think they started out in SEO AM as volume writers?

I hadn't considered things in that light. I have a science background so I was trained to think logically and analytically. I'm no good at small talk either - one of the reasons I don't enjoy parties! Despite being Irish, I don't have the Gift of The Gab that leads to that easy, talk about anything in a conversational way, thing. That's all verbal diarrhea to me. Sounds like I have my work cut out for me to cross that barrier.

You can always improve.

Hi Gary,
I like your "gutsy" determination. It really doesn't matter on long it takes, as I can testify to that, if we will stay with the goal/dream with until it does come our way.

I believe it will. Sue and I have been with WA for going on 3 years in June and we love every minute of it.

Our financial growth has been almost non-existence but I keep working on some website issues and plugging along.

I know the success will happen, I must be patient and like you said it appears harder then anticipated.

Hang in , we will succeed.

Bill

Thanks for the encouragement, Bill. I find that my ability to retain what I learn is decreasing with increasing age! I keep having to re-learn stuff that would have stuck with me when I was younger. It's a "use it or lose it" thing! :)

Well ... you're definitely using it. So hang in there.

Hey Gary, thanks for sharing. Researching and writing will get much better.

I was like you... but what really made the difference for me is writing conversationally. It used to take me a whole week to write one article but now I can do it in a day or two depending on what goes on in the day.

If you make the writing like you are talking to your friends and family, this really helps!

I know you have the perseverance and you want to do this... you're doing AWESOME!!

Thanks for the tip. I'm probably too formal in my writing style!

You're welcome Gary... we all research and write differently. Just be you... I look into things too deeply so I'm told and my style has always being more on formal writing.

Relax and make your writing conversationally... and it becomes more fun too.

That's great that you are doing so much research before writing. Your article quality will reflect that.

I do agree to your comment Jeannine. Well spoken!

Thank You!

Louisa B

Let me be the first to say congrats on getting to this point. To quote Steve Jobs as an encourgement:

"Your time is limited so don't waste it living someone else's life"

All the best....Charles
