Discussion of the Quote:
If you do not know your truth, it is not possible for you to tell it and neither can you tell the truth of others. You have to first discover your own truth and tell it, then can you also tell the truth of others.

Indeed, first and foremost, we have to be honest with ourselves. It may be difficult, or it may be easy for us to be honest with ourselves and tell ourselves the truth about ourselves.
More importantly, I don’t think that we all started as liars. It may have started when we felt that telling the truth will get us into trouble, someone could get hurt, it is too scary or maybe it gives some people a trill to lie and then be secretive about it. Whatever the reason may be or however hard it is, it always works out better to tell the truth in the first place. The truth always comes to light no matter how many lies we tell.
Final Thoughts:
No one likes to be lied to! It is one of the worst feelings and the pain that you feel when the truth comes to light is almost unbearable. No matter how many lies we tell, the truth will always come out in the end.
It is always better to begin with the truth, then you do not have to fabricate lies trying to cover up the truth. The truth will always remain the truth. The truth never changes but the lies we tell changes so often that we can’t keep up with them.
Unfortunately, you can not change others nor can you make them tell the truth. You may not even know if they are telling you the truth. However, it is always up to you to tell your own truth.

I feel that this may be part of the reason why we hardly trust people like we should, Nichola. When people give us their word that they're going to do something, that should be good enough for us to take it to the bank - a guarantee that it will get done.
But what happens is that we don't believe them most of the time, probably because our own word isn't good all of the time, when it comes to being honest with other people. Honesty starts with ourselves.

We have no basis to support or guide life if we refuse Truth. Anything less than truth is falsehood, error, lies.
Good relationships need truth on which to grow.

Truth is reality. Lies are fantacy; Imaginary truth; Empty words.
Children learn to tell the truth from honest parents.
Children need honesty training to know what reality is.
