Indeed, you have to love yourself first because only when you are capable of loving yourself can you love others as well. Love has to begin with you loving yourself and when you are filled with self-love then you can give and receive love from others.
Can you really love others when you can not love yourself? Also, can you give from a place of emptiness? Therefore, you have to fill yourself with love and then you can pass that love along to your family, friends and the rest of the world. So love thyself first then you can love all others.

Above all things love yourself first and all other loves will follow. In loving yourself, your cup of love is filled and so you can operate from a place of abundance.
Loving yourself first is so important on so many levels. It helps you to be comfortable with yourself and who you are. With self-love, you have an identity and self-confidence. Love yourself first is like if the oxygen masks drop in airlines, you are to help yourself before you help others. If your supply is depleted, how can you help others?
If the altitude isn't reduced, this supply is intended to run out in about 10 minutes, At least attempt to be as fully conscious, responsible, and awake in loving interactions.
Self-love, the real stuff keeps you balanced in the trials of life, keeps you from running on empty!
