“Trees are poems that the earth writes upon the sky, we fell them down and turn them into paper, that we may record our emptiness.” Khalil Gibran

Meaning of the Quote:

Indeed, trees are poems. It is earth’s way of writing on the sky for us to read. Each poem is unique to each of us because we each get to interpret them within our own minds. More importantly, they are filled with life teaching and guidelines so think long and hard before we cut them down and turn them into paper to record our individual emptiness.

Discussion of the Quote:

In commemoration of earth day - today April 22, 2020. I will venture to explain a single quote by Khalil Gibran which deals with earth - trees in particular. Trees are important to mother earth. They take a long time to mature fully but we take only but a few minutes to decide to cut them down in order to fulfill our individual and selfish needs. We may not all do the actual cutting down but we all partake in the use of the products created from the trees that we cut down. So we are all guilty as charged - the destruction of mother nature.

Why not plant a tree or two instead of cutting them down. Can’t we become creative and think about alternatives that we can use instead of trees? Why destroy the poems they write on the sky for us to read?

Furthermore, trees are vital because they give us oxygen while they absorb our carbon dioxide. They are the biggest plants and the longest living species on the planet earth. They stabilize the soil and provide a home and life for the wildlife. In particular, they provide us with a link between the past, present and the future.

Final Thoughts:

So if our individual emptiness is more important than the poems these trees give to us, then go ahead and cut down those trees; if not, then leave those trees alone. Moreover, our health becomes better with trees. Research has shown that when we surround ourselves by trees our blood pressure drops, our stress levels decrease and our hearts beat much slower.

More importantly, trees have medicinal properties which we use to benefit our health. So yes, when we destroy trees, we not only destroy nature; we destroy ourselves.

What a lovely post, I must commend you for reminding us on how trees look after us. Trees also speak to us throughout the seasons.
Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter. I never stop looking at them, as they pave my way to work. I truly am a fan of trees. Thanks for bringing this up Nichola.

Great explanation of the quote, Nichola. Some great pictures too.

Trees serve many functions for us, the top one is it helps use survive and live together in harmony. We breathe Oxygen which the trees supply and we release carbon dioxide, which the trees consume.

We must not forget that this is why we need each other.
