It is a day that commemorates the mothers of the family, motherhood as well as maternal bonds and the significance of mothers in the society as a whole.

This celebration is held on various days around the world. However, it is celebrated mainly in the months of March and May. There are other similar celebrations to Mother’s Day such as Father’s Day, Siblings Day as well as Grandparents Day.

In the United States, this tradition began in the 20th century by Anna Jarvis. The US Mother’s Day is not related to the traditional celebration of mother and motherhood that have existed for thousands of years. However, it has been criticized for being too commercialized which was never the intention of the founder Anna Jarvis.

Mother’s Day was first celebrated in 1908 when Anna Jarvis held a memorial in St. Andrew's Methodist Church in Grafton, West Virginia for her mother. Jarvis began her personal quest for the recognition of Mother’s Day in 1905. She wanted a day to honor all mothers because she believed a mother is “the person who has done more for you than anyone in the world.”

Due to the continuous efforts of Jarvis, by 1911, all U. S states observed the holiday with some states recognizing it as a local holiday. West Virginia, Jarvis's home state, was the first to do so in 1910. Finally, in 1914, Woodrow Wilson signed a proclamation declaring Mother’s Day to be held on the second Sunday in May as a national holiday to honor mothers.

What is the significance of Mother’s Day to you?

In honor of all mothers, motherhood as well as maternal bonds - HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY to one and all! May your day be filled with love, joy, happiness, abundance of all things, wonderful memories and continuous maternal bonds that live on forever.

HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY!

Hold on these quotes on this special day and always:

“All that I am, or ever hope to be, I owe to my angel mother.” Abraham Lincoln

“A Mother is like a Flower, each one Beautiful and Unique.”

“A mother is she who can take the place of all others but whose place no one else can take.” Cardinal Mermillod

Finally, “To the world, you are a mother. To our family, you are the world.”

HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY!!!

I will share this based on what I have learned so far,

You have a beautiful picture.
Mom left to join Dad in 2018.

Now we have COVID.

How are you keeping up?
I don't necessarily want to ask the community how they are doing.

I trust that they are are all doing their part in the containment,

If I use your image, I will attribute it back to you.

Thank you for sharing.

Paul.

Hi Paul,

Sure, feel free to do so! Indeed, we are stuck with Covid 19 on this Mother's Day.

I am doing well despite all that has happened in the past couple of months. We have to hope and trust in a higher power that this too shall soon pass.

You are welcome. Best wishes!

Kind regards,
Nichola
