Meaning of the Quote:

You have to forgive you past if it creates suffering and pain when you look back. More importantly, you have to believe that your tomorrow will be better than your today. However, you have to be compassionate when you look down on yourself in self-pity, self-doubt and shame. But when you look upward, and you realize your true potential be grateful for all things great and small.

Discussion of the Quote:

In looking back, you have to keep what you have learned from the past and let go of everything else with a spirit of forgiveness because you can not change any past situation.

When you look forward, you should do it with hope that your best days are yet to come. But when you look down on your own suffering and misfortunes, do it with compassion for yourself.

However, when you look up at yourself in all your glory of who you are and what you have, do it with gratitude for all that have been bestowed upon you.

Yes, forgiveness, hope, compassion and gratitude are all great values one should possess and are important in one’s life. So your past needs your forgiveness; give it to it.
