Discussion of the Quote:
Forgiveness is not something that we practice occasionally. It is an ongoing attitude. We have to have a spirit of forgiveness and be willing to forgive ourselves as well as others.
More importantly, we want to be forgiven by others but most times we are not willing to forgive others. We all make mistakes and are not perfect people so we will always be in need of forgiveness for ourselves and for others. Therefore, forgiveness can not be an occasional act. Instead, it has to be a permanent attitude.
Final Thoughts:
We are all in need of forgiveness now and in the future. Cosequently, we all have to be willing to forgive ourselves as well as to forgive our fellow men. Therefore, we all must have an attitude of forgiveness and not an occasional act of forgiveness.

This is so very true, Nichola.
In my daily meditations, I recite the following that I read a while ago. I added 'head' into the 3rd line after 'heart'.
"Forgiveness doesn't mean you continue to associate with someone.
It doesn't mean you expect them to change.
It means that the wrongs they've committed against you no longer take up space in your (head or your) heart."
There's a quote from Lama Surya Das which I absolutely love:
"Forgiveness simply means letting go of the hope for a better past".
