Be Careful When You Find Fault!

“Some people find fault like there is a reward for it.” Zig Ziglar

Meaning of the Quote:

Indeed some people go around highlighting the faults of others, you would think that they are being paid to do so.

“It requires no thought, no consideration, no character, no talent to be a fault-finder. It is much easier to find fault than to find ways to help. How easy to be critical and how hard to be correct. How easy to find fault with others and how hard to mend our own ways.” Fred Van Amburgh

Discussion of the Quote:

Most people already know what their faults are. They do not need others putting them in the spotlight. Be careful when you start pointing a finger at another. When you are pointing a finger at another, you are pointing three fingers at yourself.

We all have faults, weaknesses, failings, shortcomings call them what you may. So who gives you the right to go around highlighting the faults of others? Do you think that you are faultless? Are you being rewarded for finding the faults of others? So why are you doing it?

“When people turn outward and find fault or criticize others, it is because they can not turn inward and love themselves.” Nichola James

Of course, sometimes fault-finding is appropriate. If something or someone is awful or horrible, there is nothing wrong with saying so especially if it has been put out in the public eye, and criticism is expected.

However, fault-finding and criticizing, no matter what your intentions are, always build walls between you and others. When you find fault in everyone and with everything and you behave as though it is your right to do so, you will become a person to be avoided and who among us wants others to avoid you whenever they can?

Final Thoughts:

Before you start finding the faults of others, first look at yourself in the mirror and find your own faults. You will be so occupied with your own faults that you will not have time to find the faults of others. “The faults of others we see easily; our own are very difficult to see. Our neighbor’s faults we winnow eagerly, as chaff from grain; our own we hide away.” Dhammapada

For no apparent reason, fault-finders and criticizers seem to be deeply bothered by the faults of others. How dare you? Are you without faults of your own? “When you are offended at any person’s fault, turn to yourself and study your own failings. Then you will forget your anger.” Epictetus

Nichola

Beautiful post, Nichola, it's true we usually know our faults and there's no need pointing at them. A well-meant criticism is appreciated but it's always necessary to be nice and kind as well as careful because we can put the criticised person down. For every critical comment there should be many praising ones.

Great post, Nichola. Everyone has some kind of fault and they don't broadcast it but are quick to criticise others' faults. More often or not they are speaking from their own experience.

Very true Nichola.
Some schools of thought say that the faults you tend to pick up in others as those you have yourself.
