Tough Love. How we grow

Last Update: November 18, 2019

When I started here at WA about two years ago, I admit I didn't know quite what to expect. I had worked on websites and ideas for years, but I had never been a part of a complete business-building community such as this.

After years of piecing together hosting, training, and feedback from various sources, it was a comforting idea to have all this in one place.

As I continually worked on my websites and content, taking advantage of learning new skills and philosophies taught and discussed here at Wealthy Affiliate, I needed to know how I was doing.

I took advantage of the feedback offered here- another amazing feature that offers a great asset for members.

I was very pleased by the quality of the comments, and very encouraged that I was on the right track with my efforts. There was a great "high" to be had when seeing other members compliment my work.

However, there were a few negative comments, most of them offering opinions or solutions to help me.

At first, I have to admit, those criticisms stung a bit. If we haven't been used to the process, it can be an adjustment.

But we don't need candy-coated comments- we need the truth!

I began looking forward to suggestions, and adjusted my way of thinking. Where else to get better, honest feedback than from other members who are all trying to build a business? That's where, in my opinion, the true magic of being a Wealthy Affiliate member started to show.

In order to grow into a success story, as I think we all aspire, we learn more from the tough times than from the good.

My advice to anyone that might gain something from this post is to embrace the WA community, utilize the perspective of others, and GROW into what you have dreamed!

Hiya Rob,

I’m curious, were you running a website for the 4 years you were a free member? What made you go premium after 4 years?

Good question! Not too sound cliche, but I figured it was too expensive at the time. I then proceeded to go out and spend a lot more money on stuff that didn't work. When I got frustrated and started once again looking for something that was real, I came back here.

Being able to handle the negative comments as well as the positive allows you to grow better and be able to handle tough times.

Thank you! I became premium about 2 years ago, and I definitely have gained a lot of value in that time
