Word Press will pretty much always tell you to back up your content before doing updates. It is pretty simple.
As a premium member here your sites get backed up by WA every day. So no worries there. But, if you want to back up on your own, all you need to do is download your website.
On your Word Press back page just click on the TOOLS tab. The screen that pops up asks you want you want to backup. Click ALL CONTENT, then click on DOWNLOAD EXPORT FILE and it will ask you where you want to save it... flash drive, hard drive, desktop...etc...etc..
And that's the basic process.
On a side note, I've been using Word Press for years now, several years, and have not ever had any issues with doing an update and it messing up my site.

I accidently posted my about me as a page instead of a post. So i deleted it and thought I'd just republish it. but when i go into my content editor it still says edit publishe
Yup, I agree with Henry. Just copy all your text from your page into a new post and then delete the page.
Best,
Katie
What you can do is copy all the text, make a new POST, paste your text into there and you'll be good.

do not forget to backup your image files too. They do not get exported using that tool.
