What's the CONFUSION about using Site Rank in JAAXY?

Several months ago, my WA blog created a stir on the Wealthy Affiliate's platform.

I wrote that I was ranking for an article on my website, and there was a very long debate regarding the words that I typed in Site rank in Jaaxy.

I reached out to Partha and Jessica, and I also did my own research, and now several months later, I see a pattern of blogs that echoed my own mistake.

Even though I am here at Wealthy Affiliate for seven months, I still consider myself new, but I'm old enough to help others avoid making the same error that I did on that fateful day.

Explanation

When we write articles and publish them on our website, it is indexed after Google crawls on the internet.

The next stage is Ranking.

Yes, we can check Jaaxy the next day and see our website there.

Not to worry, your article is just a placeholder on the web. It has not yet found its rightful place.

Later, probably several weeks afterwards, your article will maybe rank in Google, Bing and Yahoo.

Site Rank in Jaaxy

When you use Site Rank in Jaaxy, you need to put your KEYWORDS in the left column and your website on the right, and then you can click SEARCH.

What NOT to do

Please do not put the title of your article in the left column, it will still show you the result, but that is not a true representation of your position in Google, Bing or Yahoo.

Only put in the keywords that you target in your article and other keywords that you think your customers would be searching for but NOT the title of your article.

Why can't I find my article on the internet?

Remember what I said above about placeholders. Unfortunately, your article has not yet been given a position on the internet, and so it may disappear and appear until it is given its rightful position.

Ranking

I reached out to Partha (like we always do :)) and he had a different take on the ranking of your articles

Please read his response in this article by another member

I do hope this will clear up the indexing and ranking confusion for you

I hope he will also respond to this blog for further clarification

Until next time,

Simone

Thanks Simone. Yeah I have been following this indexing and ranking thing with interest. When you first register with WA, it's almost as if your main purpose is to have articles indexed and ranked. But then reality sets in - as per your queries and Partha's responses and certainly puts things into perspective. Much appreciated.

Maria

Glad you had a read
Partha explained it nicely

Now all should be on the same track

Thank you for stopping by
Always a pleasure Maria

Hi Simone,

I just read Lula's log and Partha's responses, along with Phil's and everyone else's. Great discussion and it cleared up the confusion that I also had.

I tried Jaxxy SiteRank a while back, but not lately. I thought my keyword was my title so I'm sure I did it wrong. It's good to know the right way, and that my keyword and the title are not the same.

The things you learn here...

Lynn

Every day we do learn something different, Lynn
The good thing is that we can all learn from each other

Have a great day

Yeah all that is a lot of jazzy words, I do not get it thats intensive SEO but I do get Partha’s point about index and ranking. Ranking seems to mean nothing if theres no traffic generating to the site. That is a good point. I am glad you learned this more in depth about articles site rank within Jaaxy. We learn new things everyday on this platform. Thanks for sharing.

Yes, we do learn something new everyday Brenda

Hope you are having a great day

Only 7 months Simone? It seems a lot longer...
Where I rank is not something I worry to much about. I work from the other end using Google trends.
Type in a keyword and you can see if it is a good term with regular searches.
I still tag 3 - 5 keywords in my SEO. Obviously those with regular searches.
Michael

Yup, Michael, I am shocked as well
Many members thought that it was longer 😄

I now understand everything, Michael

And I hope others will now too
You seemed to be quite confident regarding your keywords, as you should

I hope you're having a great day
Thank you for stopping by

The starting point is still Jaaxy Simone, then Google trends. Check again after you have finished the post, because there may be other keywords you have used naturally, that may be better than the ones you initially started with.

Thank you for that point, Michael
I did forgot about Google Trends :)

Hey Simone,

I just want to address what Ntlhane has mentioned in his comment below (yes, I ALWAYS read ALL the comments before replying to anything, LOL)

And then I'm Never Talking About This Subject Ever Again, Hahaha (Or I'm going to turn it into a book and charge for it, LOL).

Okay, you CAN indeed check the entire title in Jaaxy, and as long as that article is indexed then YOU WILL rank Number One for THE ENTIRE article title (or you should be).

But to me this creates FALSE HOPE.

In the example I gave on Lula's question, I will rank number one for the term "My Super Duper Secret on How to Lose 10lbs in 10 Days or Your Money Back".

However, no-one in their right mind is EVER going to input those exact words into Google (well, I'd hope not anyway, LOL).

Basically, when using Jaaxy to check rank you SHOULD ONLY INPUT ACTUAL PHRASES THAT PEOPLE WOULD TYPE INTO GOOGLE (or Bing or Yahoo) and this will give you a true reflection of where you're ranked.

Not to put to fine a point on, is there any point in me ranking for "My Super Duper Secret on How to Lose 10lbs in 10 Days or Your Money Back" if no-one is ever going to search for that exact term?

This is what I meant by giving false hope.

I would hope that everyone understands that the lifeline of any business is visitors/traffic/customers, call it what you will.

So, unless your title in it's entirety is an actual phrase that a real person would input into Google there's pretty much NO POINT in ranking for it.

You ALWAYS want to know what the actual terms people are typing into the search engines in order to find your article.

When using Jaaxy we have to basically GUESS what phrases people are typing into Google to find our article.

However, Google Analytics and Google Search Console ACTUALLY TELLS US the phrases that people are typing into Google to find our article.

Realistically, unless your keyword research is so on-point (which unfortunately for the vast majority of people it isn't) you're going to have wait a while to get any type of ranking.

I've spoken many times of an article needing approximately 35 weeks to reach 90% of its ranking and traffic potential (this isn;t always the case btw, but fairly accurate in the main).

However, if your keyword research is fantastic (you have found a keyword that people are searching for and it has very, very, very little competition, if none at all) you can rank and get traffic a lot, lot, lot quicker.

Plus, the more authority your site gains, the quicker you should be able to rank as well.

We talk about "low hanging fruit" all the time, but once again I don't feel that a lot of people "get it".

Low hanging fruit doesn't mean it has an extremely low QSR on Jaaxy. Nope, more false hope I'm afraid.

Low hanging fruit means that hardly anyone has ever written an article on that subject before - So you either have hardly any competition for that phrase or none at all.

You can check this by going to page one of Google for that phrase.

If you find that there are forums, social media sites, Q&A sites ranking for that phrases (even just 2-3) JACKPOT. You should rank on page one for a well written article around that phrase.

If you find that none of the articles on page one are relevant for the phrase JACKPOT (this is how you outrank an Authority site) - so the search term is

"Can You Lose Belly Fat By Doing Squats?"

And every article you read is about doing sit ups and crunches (off topic, sit ups and crunches are AWFUL and no-one should ever do them ever, LOL), then NONE OF THESE ARTICLES ARE RELEVANT TO THE SEARCH TERM.

I don't care if the sit up and crunch articles are by Wikipedia or Healthline, etc. If they haven't mentioned squats in their atrticle, then I WILL OUTRANK THEM because my article will be MORE RELEVANT.

If you can find phrases that people are actively searching for and no-one else has ever written an article on that topic, you've struck GOLD.

However, this takes experience, as in you really need to know the problems that people face in your niche, and a huge amount of research.

Most stuff has already been written about on the Internet (but not everything).

I've also mentioned many times that I simply use Google Autosuggest for my keyword research.

Google is basically telling me, "HEY, THESE ARE PHRASES THAT REAL PEOPLE ARE ACTUALLY SEARCHING FOR".

To be honest, I don't really care about QSR, AVG, Traffic, SEO, etc.

I simply go to page one of Google for the phrases I find in Autosuggest and use the methods I have described above.

I never, ever, ever, ever check ranking until I'm receiving traffic (and even then I'm not overly concerned).

If my last 10 articles have provided me with between 3,000-10,000 visitors in the last month, I know for a fact that they are ranking well, probably for MANY DIFFERENT PHRASES.

However, I can totally understand people wanting to know where they're ranking soon after they've written an article. Basic human nature - we always want to know, LOL.

As I say, for me it's not about ranking, it's about how much traffic I'm getting.

Hope that helps.

Partha

Yes, correct. There is one thing between ranking for an obscure title (which in essence, indicates whether you are indexed and how fast you are getting indexed), versus ranking under particular "target keywords".

Both are a useful mechanism, and both can dictate the authority of your website. But of course the ultimate goal is to get ranked under your focal keywords, and to do so higher in the rankings. This will naturally happen over time and as your website gains authority.

Thank you, Partha, for this.

It is quite long but makes sense that you would get a single keyword working to your success as a single-word title.

Does this mean, all who claim they are on the first page are no nowhere close to that, and the methods they use to get there are nowhere close to that goal?

How can one then get a single word in a 2000 word article to work as a keyword?

Ntlhane

I believe your keywords are what others are searching for on Google

You can use Bing Webmaster, and Google Console to see your actual keywords that has brought others to your website

Wow!
It was a long awaited time for you to respond and yes, it was totally worth it

There was no point in me adding anything else.
You have said it all! :)

Hello Kyle
Thank you for being a part of this discussion.
Thank you for your clarification

As Kyle has mentioned in his response, the ultimate aim is to rank for your "focal keyword", i.e. The keyword you have moulded your article around.

However, you'll typically find that one article will eventually (with time) rank for many, many keywords.

Remember, not everyone inputs the exact same search terms into Google. 50 different phrases could all have the same meaning, e.g. "how to lose weight", "lose weight" "weight loss" "how can I lose weight" "I want to lose weight" "fast way to lose weight".

One article can rank for ALL of these terms (and many more). These phrases all mean the same thing, they had the same intent, so if your article is relevant to these, it can rank for all of them.

This is typically why one article can receive 10,000+ visitors a month even if Jaaxy tells you that your "focal keyword" only gets 300 searches a month.

With time, one article can rank for 1000s of phrases.

I wouldn't like to comment on whether other people are using Jaaxy rank checker correctly.

I think my outspoken views (haha) on this subject are plain for all to see with each and every response I've ever given.

Partha

Lol. That makes a lot of sense, Partha.

The silver lining is, everyone who thought they were at the top, could still be at the top in time. It was just too soon to conclude.

Thank you, for taking the time to share.

Ntlhane

We love when you either hijack s post or give your outspoken view
Thank you again for the clarification

Happy that it is all cleared up for you
