For my blog, it has to be American-made.
It has to be available for me to make money somewhere. If it is not on the site the manufacturer has supplied then I look to Amazon to see if it is there. If it is not then you go to the question, "am I going to use it to help others or go to the next item?"
Sometimes the answer is both but I do all this research of course before I write the blog...lol.
#3... is it a 3rd party affiliate and if so, is it going to be worth the effort to bother with them, or is Amazon paying roughly the same and I don't have to worry about Mr. or Mrs. "I have no idea who you are", affiliate.

Hi Glenn
Thank you for valuable response.
Wouldn't you search for much higher affiliate product?
I definitely would but my Niche is American made so there is that guideline I have to search for. I also write blogs that I know have that product in at least one place,
Then I contact the manufacturer to see if they have a 3rd part where I can get a better commission. Most of the time they do not respond but you have to try...lol
Glenn
I understand
I wish you success on your journey
I hope that you can also get a higher end affiliate product
Hey Glenn, make sure you look at all the veteran-owned businesses with merchant programs, as those are virtually always American made.
My favorite is Redline Steel. Fantastic products, super popular!

I have to be familiar with it or I wouldn't have enough to blog about on an ongoing basis. I am in between clothing and Ayurveda/healthy drinks and foods. I know much more about the health aspect, but I also like the clothing line idea with a couple of "beach baby" clothing sites in mind. I understand life on the beach, so it would be perfect. The problem is, I don't live there anymore, and setbacks have recently left my health challenged. It is a difficult decision; time will tell. For now, I picked the second subject in life I know most about for my blogs. Time will tell.
Great post! It is definitely something to consider carefully.
No, that's where I am confused. My niche is self-help; it does have an emerging market, but in the beginning I "thought" you just signed up with a website and hoped to sell. Now I get the picture. So, for my "niche" i picked a subject I'm very familiar with, and I do plan to write a book. But, it wasn't what I'd planned. I don't know if I'm supposed to sell clothes or food, and then have my niche blog, and sell outside of my niche. Either way, I'll make it somehow. I have books to back me up; I write too, so I'm putting on the necessary finishing touches and praying to become published. It's the $$; newly out of a marriage alone; took a hit to leave, but it's okay. :)
Denise, tall me
What is the reason for your website?
You said self help? Who is your target audience and what do you want to help them with?
Good question my friend!
I would have to say relevance, convenience and then price are the most important things I consider before promoting anything!
Have a fantastic weekend my friend Simone!
Hello Simone,
First I look for what affiliate program serves my niche the best.
Then the price points for the products I'm promoting.
Then I look for customer service and commission base.
I think customer service is key when choosing the right affiliate program.
Barbara
My niche is dogs, so I research what most people spend on products for their dogs. You have to decide based on what your audience is purchasing. There's where the Market Research comes into play.
If you chose a very high end niche, then I would expect you to look for high end affiliates and products. It would only be natural.
Yes, I wish some members would see it that way as well
Barbara, thank you for stopping by
Have a great weekend ahead

Would you buy the product?
Would you buy the product from that site?
Then look at things like the merchant's conversion rate, EPC, commission rate and cookie length.
I would also see what affiliate network the program is on. Some track better than others, some are easier to work with than others, some have better user interface's than others. I don't consider in-house programs because honestly they just can't match the technology of most of the leading affiliate networks.
Jeannine, you've shown me different points that I have to take when I'm thinking about an affiliate product.
Most that I did not think about. I won't other members see your response.
Have a great day and thank you for stopping by
