Who I am, Where I come From, and Where I am Going!

This is probably one of the hardest blog posts I have ever written... It took me at least 3 tries of rewriting (over the course of several days), condensing and paraphrasing to get this post to what I considered to be a manageable post for people to read.

Who I Am

I just updated my profile here on WA to include a few additional details about myself. So, I won't bore you with too much more.

I'm a happily married man, of 40 Years, with 3 children, 8 grand children, and 1 great grand child.

I have been working in the IT field for over 35 years... Yes, I said "35 Years". I've worked with the early PC's, installed the very first version of Windows, when it was owned by Zenith, owned a Commodore 64, and ran an ISP (Internet Service Provider) when most people had never heard of the internet.

So you could say, I have been around the block for a while.

Where I Come From

I started my IT career with the NAVY back in 1978, when I enlisted into the Dataprocessing rating. I spent the first 3 and a half years of my career on-board the USS Blue Ridge based out of Yokosuka, Japan.

Back in 1982, I got my first glimpse of at was to become the internet when using the WWMCCS (Worldwide Command and Control System) at Kirkland AFB, in New Mexico. Yes, the NAVY in New Mexico... Bet you didn't see that one coming.

In the early 90's, I left the NAVY and started my own IT consulting company. I've consulted with Fortune 500 companies, building websites with analytical systems to analyze and assist them in running their business.

I spent a lot of time away from home during my career... Traveling for business, working at client sites, and attending seminars. All the while, I kept thinking that there had to be something better that I could do, making the same amount of money, with less travel and time away. I can't begin to tell you how much travel and commute time I have logged over the years.

Looking for a change - Between the analytical processing I was doing for companies and my own experience with web design, development, and hosting of websites. I decided to start dabbling in Internet Marketing.

Where I Am Going

Internet Marketing has become my passion. I enjoy working with the technology and building sites that offer visitors the information and products they are seeking.

For me, it's not about the money. It's the freedom that this business offers!

Today, I work from home and oversee my freshly planted vineyard in the countryside of Kansas... Yes Dorothy, there are vineyards in Kansas!

One day I hope to build a winery and open my vineyard to the public. This would complete my dreams. You can follow my work here (thevines.com).

I am committed to my success. With the help of WA, the training and tools it offers, and this great community, I know that I am on-track for SUCCESS!

Great share, Hope your dreams stay true.

Thanks for sharing your story. It's not always easy to reveal oneself on such a personal level.

Yes, it isn't... And I am not the type that likes to talk about myself much either!

I really appreciate you posting this part of your life for us.

It's nice to have an insight into other people's lives, thanks for sharing :)

You did a great job with this post. I know the feeling of how hard it is to turn our thoughts into writing and have them make sense to others. You sound very ambitious, good luck with your vineyard.

Great blog, Doug. I like Kansas, it seems like a nice area to live.

Excellent! Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for taking the time to read and comment!
