Friendly Advice

After being in W/A for a few weeks I did a little blog explaining a huge mistake I made. I came in being a person who just loves writing and thought that just that was going to work. After reading lessons I decided on my Niche..NZ. Aust. Canada. A bit too broad????? lol My keywords, (I thought) NZ..Aust..Canada (Don't laugh) As these weeks progressed i continued down my chosen path thinking I could make it work even tho I was receiving excellent advice from well proven members (including Kyle) trying to steer me to a better path. I finally reached the point where I had to admit to myself that "They" who knew more than I were Right and Mr Stubborn was wrong. I threw away everything I had done and started all over again with my present hospitalitycareerhints.com which I realise is still a bit broad but definitely better than 3 countries lol This time I made the firm decision to LISTEN

Why am I saying all this?

Last night I happened to be just watching Live Chat. Something I do frequently and gain points of knowledge by watching the answers handed out by helpful members. Suddenly a very sensible basic question came in from a self titled Starter Member. Immediately the answer came in from an experienced member. I really felt sad when I saw this Starter Member for some reason did not like the answer and replied that he/she would ask someone else. The reason I felt sad for the Starter Member was because I, even with my limited, knew the answer to be 100% correct but worse I knew that the member giving the answer was a member with an enormous amount of knowledge and more, a member who had demonstrated on Live Chat many times that he/she was more than prepared to help any Starter Member prepared to Listen and Absorb and this Starter Member had very quickly thrown away this enormous help available to him/her. It was evident that here was a fellow Starter Member risking going down the same road as I did by not being prepared to Listen.

Many years ago I was given a piece of advice that always stuck with me and I pass on here to any Starter Members prepared to hear it. When someone tells you something always be prepared to listen ....if you don't like what you hear you can always afterwards just throw it away and ignore but maybe, just maybe, what you listened to may contain a valuable bit of information .

I freely admit that maybe I do not know any more than the Starter Member but what I do know is that in the community there is an enormous amount of help and good advice available and offered and available as long as we Starter Members are prepared to LISTEN.

Sometimes we all need a lesson in how to listen. Nice post! :)

wise words my friend

Good point. Need to listen to learn. ^_~

This is just so very true, isn't it? Good points to make. Thank you.

Kary u r so very welcome. Anything for a charming lady lol

Well put Neil,
I have to say that even as an oldie member myself there's not a day goes by where I don't learn something new. Often just by watching chat I'm prompted to seek out info that I wouldn't be 100% sure on.

1% every day buddy that's all we need to learn.

Mission So very true

come to that, an ex would say "when I want your opinion I will give it to you" that and "patronising is when I talk down to you" etc.

It happens - when you first join WA it's like the whole world opens up with possibilities. You feel like you can take it all on at once. Then the reality of what others have already learned before you sets in. The "listening" lesson is an important one. When you pass that class it makes the next lessons so much easier! :)

Masirois thanks for your words

Lots of times this happens in chat. Some member will give really good advice but the other person doesn't listen. It doesn't just happen with starter members either. Hopefully everyone will pay attention to this post. Thank you!

Thanks for your words Sherion

Good read! When asking or given help and advice, egos' aside.

Thanks

ok then, I am going to back away from planet earth as my new niche- for sure...LOL
The point is well made...people here are well motivated for the very most part.
Well done for being an example to others...Andy

Thanks Nom i find you a nice support for me

Thank you for the great advice Necopam. It is hard when you hear something you do not like. You are correct though. There are a lot of members who are very good at what they do. If anyone is willing to listen to them and learn. They will go farther faster.
