I am having a problem understanding how am I going to earn any money here or am I missing something?

You create a website, sign up to some affiliate program, create some posts inside your website with affiliate links. Then, when someone visits your website and buy something via your affiliate links, you get commissions. Does it make sense?
Another way to make money is to install ad on your website (e.g. Google Adsense)

First things first welcome to Wealthy Affiliate. I hope you have been enjoying the community thus far.
I would like to quickly explain to you what is an "Affiliate" and how you would be earning money.
In simple terms, an Affiliate is a promoter. You get paid by a company to send traffic to their products.
In other words, let's say Jack Daniel's has a line of products that are not moving. They would create a program where they can accept partners (affiliates) to drive traffic to their website and increase sales.
When an Affiliate sends someone to Jack Daniel's website, they would be using an Affiliate link (Personal ID to track traffic and sales).
If the customer you sent to their websites decides to buy the product because of your recommendation, you get a commision.
Wealthy Affiliate teaches you everything you need to know in order to become a successful affiliate marketer.
You will learn how to create a website, choose a niche that you are passionate about, learn to write effective reviews and guides, drive traffic to your website, choose affiliate programs, and make sales (not in that order).
