What Should You Focus On To Grow Your Business?

In the beginning, it can feel like starting your first online business is impossible. There's a lot of moving parts, and it's hard to know what's the fastest way to start earning money.

  • Do my menus look good?
  • Where do I put ads?
  • I want a cool logo!
  • What about social media?

While all those things will eventually be somewhat important, in my experience, there's really only ONE thing you should focus 80% of your efforts on. That one thing is the magic ingredient that will grow your business from 0 visitors and 0 dollars, to consistent online income.

!! Research & Writing !!

When people search for something online, they are looking for information. So if you can provide them with the best information, you are going to get their views. Just today I was looking for a CPR course in my local area. Of course, none of their websites were mobile friendly, but I was still browsing them because I was looking for the information.

What's the lesson?

If you have good info on your website people will forgive you for any poorly designed menus, sidebars, or even low-quality graphics.

  1. You cannot grow a website with a nice logo
  2. You cannot grow a website with pretty pictures
  3. You cannot grow a website with a fun plugins

Unless you are paying for traffic, you absolutely need lots of high quality content in order to grow your website.

Furthermore, most of us do not start out as experts, so in order to have ideas that we can write about, we need to do research into the niche we chose. That's normal! Sometimes it may take a day or to to compile enough information to write an really good article on topic or keyword you think is important.

Don't be afraid to spend time reading some websites, taking notes, and writing an outline before you start writing a blog post for your website: https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/training/how-to-wr...

All the work you do now will pay off in the future, so take your time.

Conclusion

Don't get caught up in design or fancy plugins. You can experiment with those later as you have more time and more skills using WordPress.

In the beginning, the most important thing you can do to grow your website is to research and write content.

To grow your business consistently in the future, your main job will also be researching and writing about new topics

Nowadays, at least 80% of what I do is research and writing. The other 20% is spent optimizing money-making pages, or looking for ways to funnel traffic to those same money making pages.

If you don't have traffic yet, you should focus on getting traffic. How do you get traffic? By writing content. What do you write about? Find topics by doing keyword research!

Thank you for the advice Nathaniell. This is what I needed to hear.

Thank you for this reminder, Nathaniell.
You are an inspiration for me.

You're absolutely right Nathaniel. Content is king and reaching the empathic core benefit value of the customer is the pathway

Thank you Nathaniell. Just what I needed to hear. I am doing just what you say to do, and trying to remain patient. In your experience, about how long before one can expect decent rankings, traffic, and hopefully conversions? Appreciate you. Tom

Thanks. What you say makes a lot of sense. When I stop to think about how I operate as an interested human (before I was interested in WA and internet marketing), I do a ton of research as a CONSUMER. So we start getting into the territory of what Kyle calls the 3 stages of being a consumer.

So we need to write, write and write some more and keep writing. Makes total sense. Makes sense. People need our information.

Great post Nathaniell.I meant to change my WA website a few months ago,but as time has past I came to the conclusion that it was challenging enough adding content,so I decided to stick with a simple theme, and then do what you just suggested.
I notice that even Kyles' websites are kept fairly simple, but packed with relevant content.
Thanks for sharing and have a good weekend.

Absolutely right, I write lawn care post for speedylawn service.com. Personally, I would preferred a short brief answer instead of some long written scientific report. People are looking for answers, not lectures.

great advise nathaniell thank you

Thanks for the golden nuggets of information Nathaniell.

You are definitely right! No one knows EVERYTHING so they must definitely do a lot of research to write content. I think the majority of my time is spent on research as well.
Thanks for the link on keyword research! I'll definitely read that when I have time.
