I have been seeing some blog posts here on Wealthy Affiliate about outsourcing content, and I have been wanting to illustrate how it impacts your productivity on your blogging business. Blogging is time-sensitive, and getting search engine traffic takes enough time as it is. So it is best to get as much content out there as possible, as soon as possible.

Required Tasks:

Keyword Research: 1 Hour

Writing The Content: 4 Hours

Publishing The Content: 1 Hour

Repurposing The Content: 1 Hour

This Process, Without Outsourcing, Takes 7 Hours On Average From Start To Finish

Assumptions:

  • 3 Blog Posts Cost $100, this number can be lower or higher.
  • Every blog post is targeting a long-tail keyword.
  • Each Blog post yields on average 10 visitors per month in SEO traffic. Some keywords will be higher, some will be lower. But this is the average.

Hours Per Month To Focus On Blogging Tasks: 30

Tier 0: You + $0 Per Month Content Budget (No Outsourcing)

4 Blog Posts Per Month

Or

48 Blog Posts Per Year

Traffic Forecast:

480 Visitors Per Month at the end of year 1

Tier 1: You + $100 Per Month Content Budget (50% of Content Outsourced)

6 Blog Posts Per Month

Or

50% increase in productivity compared to Tier 0

Tier 2: You + $200 Per Month Content Budget (75% Of Content Outsourced)

8 Blog Posts Per Month

Or

96 Blog Posts Per Year

Traffic Forecast:

960 visitors per month at the end of year 1

33% increase in productivity compared to Tier 1

100% increase in productivity compared to Tier 0

Tier 3: You + $300 Per Month Content Budget (100% of Content Outsourced)

9 Blog Posts Per Month

Or

108 Blog Posts Per Year

Traffic Forecast:

1080 visitors per month at the end of year 1

12.5% increase in productivity compared to Tier 2.

125% increase in productivity compared to Tier 0.

Final Thoughts

I hope this blog post has helped you realize the impact that outsourcing content can do for your productivity. You might not be able to afford to hire a writer to do 100% of your content, but even if it is just half of it, it would make a huge difference in helping you reach your goals.

Head over to Hirewriters or Iwriter and see if the content they can create for you is within your price range. I know that at the time of writing this, Hirewriters will give you a 25% credit the first time you fund the account.

When outsourcing, is there a short cut for adding internal and external links, pictures etc?

It seems that I spend just as much time doing this.

Jim

You won't get anyone to do that on Hirewriters. But some of the writers on Fiverr will offer that in their gigs. I have ordered from a writing team on there that will write the article, and publish the article with full on page SEO.

Here is an example of what I mean. $35 is a fair price for doing both the writing and the publishing. https://www.fiverr.com/s2/da48252e40

I've heard a lot about this, but in the end, I'm old-school--if you want something done right, do it YOURSELF! However, I realize that micro-managing doesn't work and to grow sometimes out-sourcing is needed!

Jeff

I wish it was that easy of just a matter of spending money. I tested both of those for exactly the reasons you mention. GET IT DONE and maximize the potential future traffic.

BUT... that was for inclusion on websites that I am writing the content. So the writers' articles just didn't blend in at all. I did start editing them but found it was much faster to just trash them and write the articles from scratch. I had already spent the time to create outlines with list of key points for each section that I provided to them. So actually it didn't take a huge amount of time to write them.

I think key is to do it on completely new website where every article is outsourced. Or if I could just hire a content / website manager and not even see any of it just let them manage it all. Lol

Anyway yeah you definitely have very valid points. And you're thinking from a business perspective for sure. Trick is making it work.

It can be difficult to find the right person to write your content. It can often be like managing an employee. I hired a writer once, but he was very flaky and kept on requesting extensions, so I fired him, and found another writer and she is great. But I also have had my fair share of low quality content written in the process of finding the right one.

I agree with you. Sometimes you just cannot outsource certain types of content.
