How Do You Manage Unavoidable Interruptions

With the freedom of working from home, I wonder how others manage unavoidable interruptions, as I have had such this week.

Creating a workflow and dealing with time management are just part of the conditions of working from home of which most can be combated and dealt with to not interrupt your workflow. This is something I am generally on top of and do not have a problem with. Time management and productivity have been way on track until this week.

So What Changed?

Courier companies, is what changed, of which not many wish to be accountable at this time of the year. The excuses and reasons behind delays.... I could write a book on the ones I have heard this week.

Unfortunately, the frustration with three individual courier companies this week has compounded as I try to run an effective business online, posting out and receiving products.

I have spend up to 4 hours a day on phoning around chasing products that are supposed to be in a tracking system... for a reason, I assumed. This has not been the case this week and no real answers have surfaced, accept some one is not doing there job properly.

And still no parcel!

Where to From Here?

Everyday life and the flow of operating an online local business, relying on postal systems has let me down this week. The battle to get my Internet Marketing business off the ground to replace it has become all too real!

It appears that people are not accountable for what they do as a company and seam to think that by fobbing someone off with an excuse and not a valid reason will suffice, in the hope the parcel will be delivered in that inquiry time to "shut me up".

I have found for me personally, it has drained me and affected my creativity and workflow. Feeling let down and now I am behind.

Deal With What You Can

Time to take my own advice, "if it is something I can control, sort it! If it is something that is out of my control, walk away from it". A pity I do not apply this philosophy on Monday, then my week may have been more productive.

What unavoidable interruptions have you encountered that have affected your workflow and how do you deal with it?

Cheers

Jo

For a variety of reasons, medical appointments for the family have caused major interruptions lately. A 20 minute appointment may take 3 hours with travel and waiting time. With several people needing appointment, it seems a lot of time. I have begun to carry a tablet for writing while waiting.

That can be so frustrating Jo feel your pain, lost some product recently, it is like no body wants to know about it. It seems unavoidable at this time of year especially.
I find it good to keep the communication going with customers as well as service providers.

Last week my sewer line ruptured and I basically lost two days to dealing with the aftermath. In the end, you just have to breathe, understand that 'this too shall pass' and do your best to work around what is happening.

Yes, so true, and you managed to get to the 'root of the problem', I had forgotten about that. Thank you for the encouragement.

You're welcome.
