Authoring & Writing Content

I am more interested in writing short articles (500 words or less) than writing long ones (1000+). I feel they are easier to write, read, digest and save more time for me as a

This is a great question. I have wondered about this subject as well. I understand content is king. But my concern is will my reads stay around long enough to read a 1000 word post. I think a long post needs to be broken up with pictures and the use of white space. I do know google rates higher for the longer more complete in-depth content.
Sandy

It's not bad at all. It all depends on your topic and how much depth you want in your article for your audience. I recommended mixing up the word counts per week.

For example, you can have two 500 word posts and one 1,000+ post per week. If you want to challenge yourself, try doing only one 500 word post and two 1,000+ posts a week.

Overall, check your stats. If you have more traffic with short posts, stick to that. If your audience is craving longer posts, work on more long-form content.

Good luck!

My personal feeling is that you need to write the article and not be so hung up on actual word count. If you struggle to write longer articles and perhaps the quality goes down because of it, then by all means shorter articles are better.

I've seem some awful 1500 word posts where the writer is clearly hung up on word count and waffles along - the actual information that they give could have been written in 300 words and I leave feeling like I have just been messed around.

Although the truth is that 1500+ word posts rank better than 500 word posts as a general rule.

I do have some 300 word articles that have ranked on the first page of Google so you can rank shorter articles!

It isn't easy to write long articles when you first start blogging, but over time it gets easier and easier. I see you have been a member since November - this is a work in progress. The more you write the more you will be able to write.

Your experience and results speak volumes! I've been impressed with the many hats you wear and things you do for a long time. Getting a 300-word article to rank on the first page? That's amazing and a testament to the authority you've built in your niche.
I do think it's important to get out of the mindset of "easy" and focus instead on "serving" and answering the person's query in the most thorough way possible.
I've seen horrible long form content also, but those people are usually "hung up" on word count rather than service and responsing to the query in the most helpful way.
Hopefully, this member can find balance between being productive and being helpful, and focus the majority of their energy on being helpful rather than what's easy.
You rock Lynne!

Thanks Tiffany, I think that is exactly it. Give your readers what they are looking for - whether it is 300 words or 3000 words.

Writing is not an easy task. It takes a lot of time and research, however, in my opinion, you can never cover a topic in its entirety. There is always something more to write about.
Generally, I like taking my time to do further research in order to broaden my depth of coverage.
Most experienced SEO experts say 1,000 should be the minimum. I still do a few 500-word articles here and there. But it's better to aim for more than the bare minimum.

It really does not matter how long your posts are, but there are some things you need to take into consideration.

Your content should be helpful to your readers. Yes, we are in the business to make money, but successful websites have their readers in mind. They are coming to you for help in your niche after all.

Another thing you should take into consideration is you getting your thoughts across to your readers nice and clear. Sometimes shorter posts can get the job done. Other times, you need to write more to finish your thoughts.

I hope this helps!
Amanda (Mandy)

Hi - sorry, that's not true. It definitely matters how long the posts are. Google rarely recognises anything less than 500 words and prefers a minimum of 1000 words to be ranked highly. The average length of a post on the 1st page of Google is 1800 words.

1000 is always the minimum unless you are doing some kind of site-specific or fan related update. If you are making an article, no less than 1000 words since this is considered a short article.

Better alternate

The occasional shorter article is ok. Maybe between longer ones.

Short articles don't have the same potential to be ranked for as many LSI keywords. This career isn't an easy one. People are looking for thorough answers to their queries and when you look at most search analysis, you'll find the competition using content that's 1000 words or more. Use the Jaaxy search analysis feature on some keywords you're considering and check the word count of the articles. Check out some stats before making the decision on the length of content you should write and look up "LSI keywords" in the search bar so you can get a grasp of the ranking potential you'll have with long form versus short 500-word articles. It'll be pretty tough to get 500-words ranking in most niches I've seen. Just helping you here I've probably written close to 500-words and you may still have questions afterwards--the same will be for your readers. The one who answers their question and is the most helpful wins. It's not about what's easy.

That was helpful. Thanks a lot.

Glad it helped you Nadakhaled! Best wishes for your online success. We all go thru that phase where we have to comprehend the requirements of this career field. Ask all the questions you have here--that's what community is for.

For my understanding that google does like longer content and they also ranking higher. If you want to write short articles, maybe you should publish a lot more in each week.

Hi - that wouldn't work, to be honest. Google rarely places articles of less than 500 words in its rankings.

why does this (not

Two reasons
First,
You have not activated the SSL to your website if so go to site manager the click details bottom right to scroll down and activate the SSL it should turn Green.

Second
If this has been done and still you get the message one or more of your post or pages need to be fixed mostly it has to do with an image that has http instead of https.

click this site called http://www.whynopadlock.com/ it will tell you where the error is.

once found go to the text portion and add the s at the end of http make sure all are done on that link

Save then it should be fine.

If you still have issues and not sure or can't fix it send a ticket to site support

Andre

Wishing you well and have a wonderful and successful 2019 and beyond

Andre

Yes, it did.
I hope so thank you.

Awesome to hear great work, Sheila

Hi, I agree with Louise, go to site manager and turn on SSL.
Justin

Hi there
It means your site is not secure. Site Support can assist you with this.
You can also go to Site Manager and turn on the SSL, I think that is what sorts this out for you.

There are plugins available to do this. But be careful which one you choose. Some slow down your site. I use sassy social share. It's simple and has zero affect on your website speed. Jim

I only use backlinking to refer to other links on my website that are relevant to the topic I am talking about, is this harmful?

If those backlinks are coming from paid link farms, low value sites that are not related to your niche, etc, than you could get penalized for using deceptive link building tactics.

But if those links are coming from well-established, respected topic-related websites, on long term they will help you to improve your rankings.

Alright, so I can't link to affiliate links except on product reviews?

It has nothing to do with your affiliate links Nada ... Your affiliate links are outgoing links that are pointing TO other sites. The backlinks are inbound links that are coming FROM other external sites.

Thank you for the help.

Any time!
