I have taken a look at my bing webmaster and see something new to me:

at the end of the site I have submitted after the usual /.sitemap.xml there is a .gz like this:

Hey Anne,

Leo has already provided you with the answer, but I would like to share the following tip with you.

Whenever you find a file extension that you are not familiar with, you can Google search it. Example shown in the screen print below...

Hope you find this helpful.

Hello Trish,

Thank you very much for your answer and your time. Though we have survived the Corona infection, my head still doesn't work as before. So I didn't come to the googling reflex. However, it allows me to hear again from you, which is much better.

I hope you are in a safe place, working from home and you stay healthy.

Take good care of yourself.
Kindly,
Anne

Hey Anne,

Yes, I am staying safe and sound, working from home and only shopping once every 4 weeks now. Went to go use my car one day last week, and the battery was dead from a lack of use.

Once the battery was recharged, the car was able to take me where I needed to go... pheeew!

Seeking search engine's help with finding resolutions was the ONLY method when I first started working online, so thankfully, that is my first stop each and every time :-)

...and now we have the luxury of a WA experts' family. What a chance!

Gratefully,
Anne

Yes, but we are supposed to learn... right? If we do not seek for ourselves we will never learn how to find what we want to learn. Thus the importance of learning how to use Google or any other search engine for that matter. :-)

This is right, Trish, it is important to learn how to learn, thinking twice, searching for, and then at last asking. I am quite astonished that during those nearly 3 years I only asked 24 times. Which means the answers were of great value.

.gz means - Gzip Compressed - it's all good. Your site map is compressed

Thanks, Leo, glad to hear that it is all good.

Stay safe and healthy,
Anne

I don't know if you encounter this too. Sometimes the typing within a blog post here in WA, within an answer, and within SiteContent is extremely slow. I don't understand why,

I have experienced this on occasion, but not all the time. It may be down to the traffic that WA servers are experiencing at any one time.
I also use Grammarly so I will try switching that off - though to be honest, I need to use it. Though I am a native speaker, my language ability has deteriorated with age. I

t does not help that I live in Thailand where English often becomes shortened to a few words and not complete sentences.

Hello Alexander,

This would make sense, at my place it happens mostly in the evening.

Many things deteriorate with age..., I have to nurture my French too, this is why I love to do this job. Concerning English, I was very happy to discover Grammarly, to interact here more quickly.

I will try to switch it off and see what happens.

Wishing you a great day,
Anne

Have you ever defragged your computer. This might help.
Jerry

Well, Jerry, no I never did that, you know me, absolute tech neophyte. But this happens honestly only on the WA platform, this is why I guess the computer itself is ok. And you see, this morning with the same typing pace, it is good.

I will have a look at that, thank you, Jerry,

Have a great day,

Anne

Hi - do you use Grammarly? That slows everything down. I have to disable it here.

Hello Diane. Yessss, I have to use it, but I use it everywhere. How do you disable it only for this platform?

Hi - I am using Chrome, so it is an extension, which shows up on the top menu bar of my desktop PC. I just click on the icon to switch it off for WA.

Ok, I don't use Chrome, but it appears on my top too. I will try to switch it off and will let you know tomorrow what happened.

Thanks a lot, Diane.

Hello Diane,

As promised I can confirm that Grammarly is slowing the typing down.

Thank you for this important information.

Best regards until the next time,

Anne

You're welcome. Glad you got it resolved.

I used to experience this as well but it was only when I was Private messaging someone. Had the issue for quite some time but then one day it was gone??? couldn't explain it.

Try sending a ticket to "Site Support" They may be able to help.

Wayne

Hello Wayne, exactly I forgot private messaging, this one is the worse. It is not all the time. Can it be when too many people are working at the same time?

Anne

To be honest, I really don't know Anne. I hope Diane's suggestion works.

I had never thought of that. Things like that (Grammarly) are supposed to help not hinder, you would think.

Anne, haven't had a problem with it. If you don't get an answer from the community, try Help Center.
Hope you find a quick answer.
Joe

Hello Joe,

Good for you. I didn't want to bother Help Center, it is just very annoying, I know I type very quickly. Funny right now it seems to be better again, this must be the Joe-effect.

Thanks,
Anne

Hello dear family,

I hope you are all fine. Just a quick question along with my work.

I have learned from Loes how to blur a picture well a part of it.

So

Hi Ann,
Kenburgess is absolutely right. Blurring out an image does not mean if someone really wanted to see what you blurred out will not be able to see it.
I have software that is quite effective in sharpening blurred out pictures/photographs etc.
Whatever you want blurred out is is possible to just black it out. PSD is a photoshop format and it is doubtful it will be published as a psd, as referred by Ken.

Best wishes,
Michael

Thank you, Michael,

Yes, I had a really good lesson tonight. Blackout is a great tip.

I hope everything is fine on your end and again thank you for your much-appreciated help.

Kindly,
Anne

Hi,
If you are using a program such as Photoshop and you used a photo file called .RAW and if you used layers to blur the image, then yes, you could undo the blurring effect by removing the blur layer. But if the photo you have saved in a .jpg or .png or .bmp, then no, the blurring is permanent and cannot be undone...if you try, you will only magnify the blurring effect and cause it to be more even more messed up. I'm sure the NSA can undo any kind of blurred image, but the folks like you and me don't have that luxury!

Hi, Ken, well you seem to be a pro, thank you for your answer.

So I can sleep on my both ears, I am sure the NSA won't have any interest in my blurred images. (lol)

Thank you for the compliment, but I am far from being a pro at photography, I just have an interest in it, being an amateur photographer in my spare time in the oilfields. If you are blurring a part of your blog or a video that you don't want people to see, such as account details, rest assured no one on the internet who is looking at your photo can unblur it. When you see them do this on tv shows like CSI, it is just a special effect for the purpose of the show...it really cannot be done if the blur is strong.

Just type into your browser (I use Chrome)

how to unblur an image?

You will get quite a few suggestions.
Robert

Hello Robert,

Thanks, I did that before I put my question here because as I understood, this can be done with my own images, but I was wondering if someone could do that too in order to undiscover information that I want to hide which is why I blurred it.

For instance, if I take a screenshot from my screen and I blur the details of my wordpress account, could someone unblur it to find out what I didn't want to show?

Do you understand what I mean?

Why not just blacken them out.
I use Paint to do that.

Ha, why make it easy when it can go more complicated? Never thought of that, but I have paint too on my task at the bottom.

You are the best, Robert, so many thanks!

I just tried it out, great, I can even adjust the color.

Thank you, Robert.

Hi Anne
I went for my eats so late getting back to you.
I use Paint for quite a few things and its great for resizing and erasing parts you don't want as well.
I'm so glad you got it sorted and a good tip to remember for the future.
Hope the rest of your day is going well.
Robert

A very good tip indeed.

Always happy to help you out Anne and I hope you go on to great success.
Now I think I will sign off for the night as its been a long day (up at 5.30 this morning).
Robert

I do the same, Robert, goodnight.

Anne

It depends on the final image format. If its .jpg .png then it is what is known as destructive formating.

It can't be undone.

So, if it can be undone, it is not the proper way to hide pieces of information. Do I understand it right?

Thank you, Steve, for dropping by.

Kindly,
Anne

I said can't ?

Oups, I think my eyes are tired!

Thank you, Steve, this is good news.

Have a great day

No problem lol

To expand a little...

Destructive formatting means the original data is lost and the only the new image data exists.

There is also non-destructive formatting such as adobe lightroom...but as soon as this is exported to .jpg .png it becomes a new image and there are no undo's

There is a chance that forensic level software could re-peice the original together, but thats very advanced software and not public domain, and still depeds how much you blurred it, and its still not undo the blur just guessing what it might have once been.

If you blur something extensively, save it as a .jpg or .png it can NOT realistically be undone.

Un blurring software is designed to sharpen poor images not read blurred out text

If it were that easy to un blur images us photographers would be out of business...

You are making the topic interesting, Steve, so you are a photographer, could you make a business online out of it?

I guess my readers are people who have up to my level of knowledge. I just wanted to illustrate an explanation and put a screenshot of a program hiding by blurring the details of my account. Just to be on the safe side and keep my private information private. I mostly save them as png, as I use Canva for cosmetics.

I have learned so much today, thank you, Steve, for your time and light.

Anne

Well an amateur photographer at best lol

I am in the travel niche, and doing ok, and use my photography to supplement my travel site...meaning I travel, take pictures and blog and use my photos (and video) to illustrate the blog.

That is what caught my eye about the question, i thought you wanted to sharpen a poor image...something I wish was possible lol but it really isnt with anything in the public domain.

Film and tv would have us believe the nsa and fbi can do it with easy but the reality is adobe, apple and Samsung all have much bigger budgets than any government agency and still have not come up with a great way to sharpen blurry images.

Let alone unbluring intentionally blurred text. And any ability to undo is instantly lost the second you save as .jpg .png

It is funny, it is the first time I am happy with something that cannot be undone!

Dear Family,

Many years I used the Genius Link for my Amazon products and waited with the One Link installation.

Now I wanted to go forward and I have successfully

I use the links from .com and .co.uk depending on what I am advertising and to who. As Trish says it automatically takes you to Amazon in the country you reside in and shows you the product if it is available or if not the closest they have to that product.

Derek

Hello Derek,

Thank you for stopping by.

Luckily both .com and .uk are in English, so I guess this is easier for you.
I understand how the links function, what I am missing is :
From where do you originally work? You see I am logging in Amazon.fr and from there I choose my products and links, this is what I was doing.

But now?

How shall I do? Do I have to log in Amazon.com to choose and link my products or can I log in Amazon.fr and do my work as usual. I am wondering because this one link is originated from Amazon.com with the supervision of the other accounts.

Not sure I managed to put it clearly here, sorry. Do you understand me?

I am in the UK Anne. As the blogs are read by more Americans than any others I tend to use Amazon.com. If your blogs are in a different language then I would use Amazon from the country in question.

I hope this helps.

Derek

Thank you, Derek, I will continue to use .fr as I used to do and I hope the One Link works.

Have a nice Sunday,
Anne

Good afternoon my friend it is my understanding that the American part of Amazon works for all. May Prosperity be with you always.

Hello Earl,

Thank you for your answer. Do I understand it right? Amazon.com is on the top of the hierarchy and I have to log in there to initiate the choice of the products and the grabbing of the links?

Hey Anne,

Being a Canadian, I knew that Americans purchase more than we do, so I originally signed up with Amazon's dot com. Only once the OneLink opened up did I sign up for the others... and so I always retrieve my affiliate links from Amazon's dot com site.

The OneLink worked great. Again, being Canadian, even though I use American Amazon affiliate links... when not logged into my site, and I clicked to test my Amazon links, they sent me to the Amazon dot ca as the OneLink is supposed to work.

When I used Amazon's image and my affiliate link... and I clicked on the image when not logged into my website... if the dot ca Amazon site did not carry that product I would see other products similar but not the one pictured. Only the American's would get to actual product I used the picture of.

Good job I signed up for Amazon's dot com because my site sees more American visitors PLUS Amazon's dot ca kicked me out because I'm not getting enough visitors from Canada clicking on their links... same has now happened with France's Amazon.

Hope this helps you.

Hello Trish,

Thank you so much, I was really thinking of you while asking my question as I remember your post at that time. This was one of the reasons why I waited so long.

I have been looking at the products from USA and yes the focus and the products are different from France, this is why I am not sure if this is right.

I will have to think about it overnight.

Really appreciate your answer, thank you.
