Is it possible to make the font larger on my WP blog? I know how to change the color and how to switch to italics but I don't see how to make it bigger. I would like my font si

I USE F(X) EDITOR, IT WILL ALLOW YOU TO DO ALL THAT AND IT IS REALLY EASY TOO.......XOXOX
MAKE SURE WHEN YOU INSTALL IT THAT YOU HIT THE TOGGLE BUTTON (IT IS TO THE RIGHT OF THE SCREEN......HOVER THE MOUSE OVER IT AND IT WILL SAY TOGGLE....HIT IT AND THEN YOU WILL SEE ANY HIDDEN BUTTONS IN YOUR EDITOR) ANY PROBS P.M ME XOXOX

I am using TinyMCE Advanced and it resolves many problems.
I haven't found out yet how to increase the size of the title.

Some themes allow you to edit the code to increase font size Myra without the need for a plugin

It brings up another point which is one I'm facing right now. Some Premium themes will already have this coded for your easy use + they won't slow your site as will happen with too many plugins.

Premium themes solve a lot of problems, but they cost $.

As Marion said below, there is a plugin called "TinyMCE Advanced". Once you install it and activate it, you can choose the options you want such as font size or font family. Those are the two main ones that I use.
Hope this helps.
Shawn

When on the Wordpress Editor select the ToolBar Toggle icon which give you access to a range of editing options. You can't change font size but you can change font Format for bigger font select heading style 1_5.
Lesson 2 of training does cover this.
Good Luck

This should help

Thanks so much, Marion.

Do I need to compress my photos before adding them to media and to my page and blogs in my WP website? If so, which program do you recommend? And can you explain to me about wh

I use Eeew plugin. Ty it out ;-)

Compressing a photo is about taking out extraneous information that is not necessary to the picture...the same as when playing music...MP3 is more compressed than CD, and a CD is more compressed, than a vinyl record. So taking up less space means it can load faster. You can compress images with a plugin or offline on your computer. Most imaging software will allow compression. It's recommended that you compress then upload because plugins can slow down your site.

Yes you should compress them to help your site load quickly - it doesn't change the look of the image

To optimize or compress them Myra you can use http://tinypng.com and yes it is best if you do this Compressing/optimizing is different from resizing or cropping

Thanks so much.

I tried to install EWWW plug in but there are some techy issues and it looks like it hasn't installed properly. I have asked the WA community how to resolve this techy issue with EWWW but haven't received an answer. And I am clueless.

I think it looks like tinypng.com is easier and more user friendly, especially for those who are techy challenged.

Now, how do I uninstall a WP plug-in?

We can do this Myra. First of if you have tried once and there is an issue you will need to delete it. Then watch video from Marion and try to install it if you have any problems send me a message.

Yes definately make sure your pics are not too big. I use Canva.com all the time, even with photos. From there you can save in two formats, PNG for quality or JPEG for the web. Paint, the free app with windows gives you the resize and crop function.Cheers Kev

Thanks, I really like https://www.picmonkey.com/ for editing my photos. It has all the basic editing I need and it's fun to use.

Fantastic Myra, it is great to find the right tools. Makes it much easier to get the job done. Cheers Kev

Myra

I am using a Chromebook so do not have all the fancy software to compress a picture however I use the cloud for almost everything. When I have a picture which is just too big then I always go to https://pixlr.com/editor/

I can change the height and width, remember to keep the tick in the box at constrain proportions, then save the same picture on 80% quality which is good enough and I see the picture size shrinking to under 50kb.

Reachable here. A major guru in WA. https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/pjgermain

You should. PJ Germain has a pretty good post about site speed.

OK, I am very good at asking 'stupid' questions so: Who is Germain? And how do I contact him? Tks.

He is Pjgermain Myra. He is very knowledgeable. https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/pjgermain

And he's AWESOME!!

Yes he his! When ii grow up I want to be just like him. :)

I would like to add up to 12 photos on a blog or a page because of my niche. It is about crafts and needs visual aids for viewers to understand and see the crafts and step by s

It really depends on your theme, so you'll need to play around. For my site the images I use for the most part are either 150x150 and 250x250 pixels.

It also always best to start with a large picture and reduce the size this way you don't lose any resolution or get distortion.

And it's also a good idea to compress your images. You can do this for free with any online compression program I use http://compresspng.com/ you can compress both JPEG and PDF image files.

Hope this helps

Just a question? What about a gallery or slider?
Can't wait to see your site!

I use 500px max. but most of the time I reduce them to 300px
One theme is 540px but my other theme is 980px
Depends also how many px your theme is.

You never lose by starting large and reducing to a smaller size. It is almost impossible to effectively go the other way

If you are planning to wrap your text around them Myra I usually use 500x500 I understand all images are not square keep the aspect ratio the same and make them 500x whatever. I am sure you already know to optimize your images before uploading them to your media library

Thanks so much. I was thinking of resizing the photos to 800 - 700 width (and whatever height) if I want to make them the width of the page or blog and don't want text wrapped around them or next to them. Is that a good size for the full width of the page or blog?

That would be great Myra. You can upload all your images that size and crop them if needed

My photos on my website are not showing up. Why is happening?

I assume this all worked out and so, I'll say,"Congrats."
We're all learning.

Have you deleted the photos from your library? Or have you updated any plug-ins?

I updated my website. Do I need to update plug-ins in addition to updating my website?

Did they show up before? If so have you deleted them from your media?

Is that the problem? I did delete some from the media. I thought there were too many in the media. Am I suppose to keep them in my website media?

Yes, the photos on your website "feed" from media

I have a long, tedious job ahead of me tomorrow. Putting back all my website's photos into the media and then on all my pages and blog posts. Good thing my website is just at the beginning stages. And I only have one blog post.

One of those stupid beginning mistakes. That I won't do again. Thanks for letting me know what happened.

Did you add them using "add Media"

Yes, I did. They were showing up until just now. My husband checked on his laptop as well. So, this is very peculiar. I was working on my website 2 days ago and everything looked fine then. Never had this problem before. Just wondering if anyone knows what is causing this and how to solve it. Tks.

Are they still in your library? Did you had an update?

library? update? I do have all my photos saved in Dropbox.

Are they in your media library on your website too? They need to be there, otherwise they will not show

Thank you. I now discovered the problem. I tried to do some 'uncluttering' and deleted many of the photos in the media. Well, I suppose we can 'unclutter' toooo much. :) I have them all organized in Dropbox and so, I can simply add them again. Thanks so much. Glad it's a simple solution.

Glad you found the problem success adding them again:)

It will be easy but time consuming. But, I won't be making that simple and stupid mistake again. Thanks so much.
