The Universe Has My Back…And Yours!

Hello Guys and Dolls,

How are you doing…I hope well…and if not, please take from this lesson what you will to improve your outlook in whatever situation you find yourself.

So today, I was on my way home in my travels.

My flight was delayed by 5hrs from New York to Paris, and this followed with a chain effect…I would and did miss my connecting train to Belgium.

The good news…my plane was still leaving.

The not so good news, I would misconnect and my daughter was sick at home and my husband was going to Portugal so for a few hours, she would be home alone…this did not make me feel comfortable…and now the train was gone.

Ok, it will be alright, I tell myself, I chose to look on the positive side of things, though the ‘reality’ looked dim.

So, I arrive in Paris…it is snowing – it never snows in Paris…but today, yes. All trains are now delayed. I have to wait another 2 hours.

Now, I had a choice…a few at least –

1/Do nothing and just have a pity party and watch nothing happen.

2/Buy a new one-way train ticket of 63 euros to get to Belgium – a bit pricey.

3/Buy a new train ticket using my discount card and arrange a future return (for which I did not have any travel plans as yet) which would cost 40 euros.

4/Board the train and hope that the train manager does not do his rounds (ticket check) and then if he does, risk getting a 200 euros fine PLUS the most expensive ticket, about 100 euros.

5/Talk to the train manager and hope he is sympathetic to my cause.

I chose option #5.

I thought it hard to lose the cost of my return ticket and somehow hoped to ‘get it back’ using this option.

So, I waited for the new train to arrive.

It was also late by 15mins.

Once the train arrived, I looked for the train manager and decided to explain my plight before boarding. I saw them – there were two. They stood at the first-class cabin entry door.

I approached one and asked if he spoke English – I speak French, German, and Flemish but I chose to use English. He said, ‘yes’. I quickly explained my dilemma.

He wasted no time in telling me that I would have to buy a new ticket and that it would be expensive. I said, ‘Fine, no problem’. At this point – the ‘die was cast’ and I accepted that.

He told me to board and then go upstairs to the bar and he would find me to create the new ticket.

Instead, I chose to stand in the passage because I had too many bags to go up the stairs and I waited there. Once the train doors closed, he came on, saw me standing with the bags and said, ‘Please sit in First Class and I will come to you. I won’t charge you a First-Class ticket, no worries.’

I did as told.

I waited.

He eventually came to me. He asked for my ticket that was expired and my train card. He scanned it. Then he said, “Normally, you have to get a new ticket because the reason you missed your original train was not the fault of TGV (the train company), however, I will allow it this time.”

My eyes got watery at the generosity of this man, I wanted to hug him (but I didn’t). I said, ‘Thank you’.

He allowed to stay in First Class without a problem.

NOW, people – this is the Universe in action.

I chose to believe that I would find a sympathetic train manager who would understand my case and allow me to ride ‘free’ under the circumstances and it happened.

Of course, when it appeared that it might not happen the ‘way I wanted it to’, things seemed bleak but I did not give up.

The funny thing to this story is this part – I tried twice to buy a ticket online before the train manager came because then I could use my train card discount and still not pay the 70+ euros that it might have cost if he had created the ticket, and the internet connection ‘broke’ and would not allow me to do the new ticket online.

The Moral of this Story

You have to believe that what you seek will arrive. You have to be patient and convinced that it will – even though at times, things might look bleak.

I did not need to get a new ticket, and I rode in First Class – what more could be perfect?

The Universe has your back…and mine…just believe you can and it will be.

Namaste

Michelle

YOU ALWAYS HAVE A CHOICE

The outcome is in your hands whether you choose to believe it or not…or maybe, it is in your mind!

Good evening Michelle,

Even if we do not always understand the Universe knows best and all will be ok.

Greetings from the south of Spain, Taetske

Hey there, T. YES, even if we do not 'get' it ...it will work itself out too.
All the best.

Thanks for the share Michelle. Yes we always have a choice, unfortunately I make silly choices. The last one was, I was at the airport when my ship came in. Namaste

Hey there Michael,
How have you been? Hope well. Yes, we always have a choice and even if we choose the 'wrong one', it does not mean that the lesson is 'lost', it just means that we will have another experience.

Traveling the world can be difficult sometimes. Foreigners who help us world travelers are like our guardian angels watching over us. My first girlfriend in elementary school gave me a St. Christopher cross (the patron Saint of Travelers). I have had to get a few new chains, but I have had it for over 50 years.

Interesting. Never heard of that saint. Thnx for sharing.
