Let's Talk Power Words
Let’s Talk Power Words
Hello Guys 'n Dolls,
I hope you are off to a great start this week. I would like to share some thoughts.
Have you ever wondered about which words you can use in your content to elicit the right action that you want the reader to use? Somewhat of an emotional trigger, if I may? Well, here are a few words that you might consider as you write your next article.
Here is a list of some emotional trigger words – now keep in mind, you are not doing anything illegal – or at least I hope not – you are simply getting your audience to ‘pay attention’ to the content that you are delivering.
After all, the more readership you garner, the better it is for your business and of course, everyone likes a repeat customer/reader…not to mention one that takes action…and I quickly remind you – remember to add that CTA.
Without further ado, here is a short list of emotional trigger words:
GREED – the human psyche is powered subconsciously by this emotion. We tend to always want something…and then more of it. It triggers the emotion of scarcity and loss aversion as well as the sense of value.
- giveaway, limited, price-drop, deadline, bonus, jackpot, pay zero, never again, don’t miss out.
CURIOSITY – that curious minded attitude that gets the sale every time. You must remember your headlines. Hook your reader in for the long haul.
- Illegal, shocking, strange, stunning, top-secret, little-known, crazy, ridiculous, unexplained.
VANITY – ok, we are not all vain in the true essence of the word, but we still care somewhat. Using this word tactic identifies with the inner vanity of anyone and also their compulsive behavior.
- Elegant, elite, jaw-dropping, sassy, genius, good-looking, brazen, successful, super-human.
TRUST – the much sought-after trust between the customer and the business. Yes, you need to garner the trust of your reader and build your credibility with whatever it is that you have to offer.
- According to, accredited, proven, expert, guaranteed, iron-clad, fully-refundable, money back, worldwide.
FEAR – yes, this emotion is one which comes into play almost every day of our lives. It can motivate or inhibit our actions. You can use these words to do both.
- Risky, fooled, frightening, meltdown, catastrophe, horrific, stupid, trauma, epidemic.
The key here is to use these words to ‘spice’ up your:
- Content
- Landing pages
- Headlines or titles
- CTA’s (call to action)
- Email sub-headings
Practice writing to get and keep your readers interest by stirring up the emotion that will help them to make the best decision for themselves.
And remember to provide quality and educational content that will elevate, motivate and inspire.
Much success
Namaste
Michelle

Thank you for the word map to emotional triggers. I will have to weave them into my post and eventual blogs.
