I am 56 years young and retired from the corporate rat race 12 years ago. Everyone said I was crazy to retire so early. I said you are crazy for working at a job you hate til you are 70. I left 500k in salary on the table over the past decade and have no regrets. Money replenishes, itself, Time does not.
I am a Certified Personal Trainer/ Fitness Nutritionist/ Exercise Therapist and also Teach English abroad. I travel the planet looking for discovery, adventure, and knowledge. I bought a condo last summer in Kiev, Ukraine to be with the most amazing woman I have ever met in my life. I spend my time equally there and on the road.
I am an avid golfer, competition chef, reader, open water certified rescue scuba diver and will do anything tor an adrenaline rush. I live by a strict Heirarchy of Values and do not waver from their adherence.
1) Health- I love helping people reach their health goals.
2) Wealth- Everyone has some type of wealth.
3) Faith- No explanation needed. Play hard, pray hard, all day, every day.
4) Purpose- I get joy/happiness from helping others. My happiness is determined by how happy those around me are. The cornerstone of achieving success is helping others(who appreciate it).
5) Absolute Freedom- The state in which absolutely nothing can restrain me from doing ANYTHING, ANYTIME, ANYWHERE my heart desires, neither myself nor any external forces, Unlimited possibilities exist for me. I worked my ass off to get it. It will never be taken away from me.
6) Belonging- A sense of Community/ Social Relationships (WA filled a void)
7) Knowledge- The daily pursuit of knowledge, wisdom, adventure, and discovery, by traveling, reading, soaking in all of life's experiences and the wonderful things God has put on this planet.
8) Footloose- Life as most people live it leaves me empty and unsatisfied. I need a richer, more intense and challenging lifestyle.
9) Respect- All any man needs is respect. All any woman wants is to be loved.
10) Happiness- "Happiness is only real, when shared"..Christopher McCandless
I challenge everyone to WRITE DOWN your Heirarchy of Values.
For most of you FAMILY, would top this list. I have none. My mom was born in 1921, Dad in 1905. I have so siblings and only a few first cousins living. Not enough to keep me in USA. I found the love of my life in Ukraine and the country is amazing. The cost of living there is 75% cheaper than USA. They say you can never go home. They also say home is where the heart is. My heart is in Ukraine, so I AM GOING HOME.
I LOVE THIS COMMUNITY AT WA, AND FULLY INTEND TO TEACH WA TO UKRAINIANS. The average salary there is $145/mth. I can really make a difference in the lives of so many there.

MAKE A LIVING, MAKE A DIFFERENCE

I am glad you are following your heart. I thought the Afghan people earned very little at $200 per month locally, $800-$1000 on the military base. But there is even worse, very sad. The good news is, this Community is worldwide and you will be able to help many. That's great. Thanks for the follow.

Mark how are you, it is good to hear from you. I see that you have been a very busy man when I look at your accomplishments since 2018. You are accomplishing a lot in your life and you are tasting the fruits of all your hard work over the years, that is really impressive. For a person to walk away from $500,000 says a lot about a person an I agree money is not everything.

I live in Canada I have never traveled outside of Canada and the farthest I have ever been to is Ontario. I am very envious of you, how you have decided to live your life and help others is very remarkable and courageous. You are a very happy man and highly motivated one which is really impressive. I wish you all the best.

Thanks for the follow Mark, I am honored. I welcome the opportunity to follow you as well as you seem like you have infectious enthusiasm and relevant knowledge to share.

I relate to your being open to finding yourself in a place outside of where you are told you should. I have many friends from Ukraine and you are fortunate to have found a home there.

I think that your willingness to share this knowledge there is truly awesome and I wish you the best as you endeavor to achieve this. I hope to do the same once I am able to relocate to Malaysia.

Best of luck.

Hi Mark. Now you have me thinking about my hierarchy. Family, more so my child will be in that #1 spot because I've been a single parent for so long. I started this journey at WA because I need to do some rearranging of my list. Not saying my kids are less important. I'm in the mind frame of working on me and doing something for me. I've given so much of myself to other people. It's time to do something for me. Thanks for sharing, you really got me thinking!

Hello M Thompson; I enjoyed your story. It sounds like you have lived a good life Is it not something how a good life lived becomes great life when you give of yourself for others needs. Hi Mark,
Many thanks for the follow. I have just read through your profile with great interest and admiration for what you have achieved in your life so far. You have proved that if we are prepared to make the decision to be different and strive for what we want in life we can indeed have a rich life. The "norm" does not offer that.
It is also great to hear of you desire to help other people. It does indeed give a warm glow when one is able to help others so well done with that and also, in your "home" country of Ukraine I believe you will be able to help many with WA.
All the very best on your journey here and I will be interested to follow your progress.
I have followed you back, I hope you don't mind.

Fascinating. I didn’t happen to meet you at Taco Bell a couple of weeks ago did I? I was out running errands otherwise I would have never been there, but I met the most interesting man who was a personal trainer and planned to move to the Ukraine to be with his girlfriend. He gave me his email address and told me about Wealthy Affiliate. I lost the little slip of paper somehow and was very discouraged about that, but I wracked my brain to try to remember what he had written down and came up with the words Wealthy Affiliate which I then googled. I wish he could have gotten credit for my membership.

Hi Mark,
Thanks for the following,
I really like your values, that speak a lot to me.
You seems to live your life by taking fully responsibility of your choices and no by being a victim of circumstances that life bring you.

You know what, I like the challenge that you propose and I will participate

Here's the Hierarchy of my values :

Being an example :

1- Health... I do love being in a healthy body, knowing some basic information on the bio mechanic help me to understand myself better and it easier to guide other's
2- Love... It is important for me to give love to myself in the hard time of life. Sometime I doubt of my capabilities and giving love to someone who really need it, fill my heart and give me the strength to continue
3- Family... I live at 5 000 km away from my family. Sometime it's hard to not being with them physically and it is a major reason why they are as important for me. I realize that when we have something in abundance, I have a reflex to forget how lucky I am to have them in my life.
4- Sharing... If I have just 1$ in my pocket, I want to give it to someone who need it. But the most important, it's the time I share with people.
5- Being grateful... I think that value say everything by itself
6- Growing as a human... Life bring experience, we all have the choice to take those experience in the way we decide to see them

All the Best,
Mathieu

I challenge everyone to write them down. They give you a perspective of where you are and where you are going. My parents were born in 1905 and 1921, so only family I have are a few first cousins scattered here and there. Had to go 5000 miles to meet someone with whom I mean to start a family, so that is why family is not quite on my list. Love your list my friend, very admirable.

Thank you for following. You've come right on time. I am leaving my job in a couple of weeks which is not that a corporate miracle but I currently live in Greece which is supposedly just recovering from crisis and this job is pretty high paying. I can always go back but it would kill me. I cannot say I have something going in the blogging world but I need time to work on my new creations. I am fairly new to WA which has given me that push that was missing. I was born in Greece and went to the US when I was 8, came back when I was 15, went to the US again when I was 19 and came back again when I was 21. After opening various businesses which went pretty good, I started to travel to India, Nepal, Thailand, etc. and at some point found myself in Mexico where I formed a family and spent 16 years of my life. I came back to Greece three and a half years ago because of the violence issue Mexico has been facing in the last decade. My daughter was going to enter her teenage years and I did not want her to live in that kind of situation. I am now 56 also and am thinking of going to Madrid to live for a few years. I will have to go back to Mexico within a year and a half and probably have to stay there for a few months in order to not lose my citizenship. I speak fluent English, Spanish and of course, Greek.

And that pretty much sums me up. I am glad to have met you. In a way, you give me inspiration. I hope everything keeps working right for you in your amazing life. You are an example to be followed. Stay well!

Hello Mark ... thank you for the follow. You have such an honest and refreshing outlook on life, and seem undeterred once you set your mind on the direction you want to go. These attributes will serve you well here at WA.

Does your Ukrainian lady friend speak English and/or are you learning to speak Russian?

I wish you the best on your WA journey and your journey of life.
Reply
MThompson3 Premium
Thanks Dennis. She speaks better English than most Americans. And Ukrainian(Cyrillic alphabet) easier to learn than English. Most of the letters are latin like engish and they all have just one sound. The young people here all have at least 4 years of college and many years of learning English. The problem here is the government is so corrupt and the average salary only about $150 usd. The "shadow economy" is embedded from the communist days and will take better leaders to solve the problem. The people are salt of the earth and living here reminds me of growing up in the late 60's-early seventies in america. I am 2.5-3 hours from all the European capitals and so much history to see. With Russia attacking ship yesterday in the Black Sea, martial law is now in force Afraid it is going to get worse before it gets better. The West doesn't want to get involved. Sad.

Mark, It is one thing to learn to speak a language, but another to learn the rules of grammar. I have learned both, and find Russian/Ukrainian grammatical rules to be very difficult. Just like English, Russian spelling can be difficult and Russian letters can be pronounced differently under certain circumstances.

The hardest part of learning English is the spelling of words, and it drives me crazy. Good Night

If I did not know English, I would say it has to be hard to learn. Seems like there are more exceptions than rules. Learning the Cyrillic alphabet is easy and all the letters have just one sound(unlike English). My girlfriend always wants to improve her English. I tell her she speaks better than most American, and the way she butchers some expressions is priceless. Spanish was easy to learn and just as easy to forget. Guess like anything if you don't use it , you lose it.

Why are you so upset with him? I worked with many people who retired and left the USA to live in a country that is less expensive. I haven't read any negative comments about the USA from him? Have you?

He doesn't know CLandi. Morons like him are the reason I left America. He hides behind a computer spitting insults, but would never say anything to my face. He's at work now, I am heading to St. Croix to spend 2 weeks scuba diving, then to Prague to a friends wedding. He has never been out of Hazard County.

Mark,
I'm disappointed that it had to be a war of words. I took to you because we have much in common, and that makes it easy to relate to you. I have considered moving to Kiev, but not because I don't like this country. Instead I would do it for it a lady I really cared about.

St. Croix and Prague. Is that made possible by what you have accomplished at WA?

Thank you for the like and the comment. I hope you find happiness wherever you are in this world.

Haven't made a cent at WA, but looking forward to using what I have learned here to switch from one-on-one training to online (can reach way more clients). Made my moving money selling my house, business(Property Maintenance-had 51 residential/commercial properties I maintained by myself), lump sum payment from 25 years at Scripps Howard and not having any kids. Plus Personal Training nets me $75/ hour. Put money into my IRA's for over 25 years. Compound interest is a great thing.

Mark, you are very wise. If I had to do it all over again, I would have chosen a Roth IRA. No tax benefits on your current income, but you pay no tax on what you take out when you retire. After reading your comment again, I'm not sure that you haven't invested in a Roth IRA.

Thanks for the comment.

Thanks for the follow...you have an impressive life resume. I really like your statement, "Money replenishes, itself, Time does not." This could not be more spot on. I too retired early ( age 46 ) from a law enforcement career. I've had a few very boring full-time jobs since then. I am very intrigued by anything online and I think this platform has great potential for retired folks. It will take hard work and effort to obtain income but I'm always up for a good challenge.

Good luck!

I would think there are people in nursing homes who are just there because they don't have someone to care for them. They probably still have all their wits and could enjoy WA, perhaps even do it as a group. For $49/mth they would have plenty of sites for everyone. Your thoughts?
Reply
Calh60 Premium
Great idea, my dad, who is deceased now started tinkering with computers in his later years. I really think the interaction kept his mind sharp and his thoughts progressing forward. The same thing could be said for folks in nursing homes.

While I go through the boot camp training I want to focus on the retired community with a concentration to retired veterans and law enforcement. I think it is the kind of thing that may allow for scaling as well. Just think if even 10 people signed up in a nursing home. That would be a large number of possible sites.

Lets keep in touch with this niche idea and brainstorm. The older generation would have so much of life experiences to draw niches from. Moneonline.com am sure is taken but how bout moneyfromnursinghomedotcom. why not?

Hi MT. Thank you for adding me to your team. Talking about salaries, here in South Africa the average salary is $70 per month among the poor which forms almost 60% of the population. Where a whopping 27% of them are unemployed. And just thinking of the woman and her daughter next door to me... they do not even know how to switch a computer on! I hope your task in the Ukraine would be easier. All the best and take care.
Regards
Charmaine

I never really thought about how poor South Africa really is. Ukraine's problems are leftovers from being part of Russia for so long. Almost all employees are paid "under the table" so employers do not have to pay taxes. This "Shadow Economy" makes it difficult for a gov't to get anything done. The young people are the most highly educated in the world. All speak 3 languages, have a 4+ years at a university, 18 months military training. The literacy rate is highest in the world at 99.8 % They just don't have enough jobs though they have become like the 5th largest IT job market in the world, behind only china, Russia, india and America. WA would be perfect for the younger generation. The people are salt of the earth, so hospitable, so family oriented. I love it there.

Life is a journey & we only get one shot at it - so I try to not look back at things I can not change - but look forward & try to make a difference for myself & my family, friends & help where I can.
I am an Aussie in Thailand where the salary is approx $130 a month for most. As A Rotarian, I do what I can to assist children & their education.

Man, it sounds like freedom has given you the time to really think things out. We have a lot in common, but it isn't age (I'm 20 years older). Because of those 20 years, I've lost the ability to do much that you do physically. But the values correspond pretty closely. I might put faith a little higher and wealth a little lower, unless you are talking about grouping everything you are mentioning together as your wealth or richness...then it would stay near the top. Your value of people is obviously sincere. Your love in Ukraine, the people you want to help, your friendship that are waiting to happen here on WA. I'm impressed and I hope to get to know you better.

Same here Richie. My parents were born in 1905 and 1921 so only few cousins scattered about is not enough to keep me in USA. My happiness these days does not depend on how happy i am but how happy those around me are. I embrace challenge, change, discovery, adventure and Ukraine offers all that. Welcome, you will absolutely enjoy the progress you will make..

As a newbie to all this, my biggest suggestion would be to be sure and follow the getting started videos exactly as they are presented. You will find yourself progressing quicker than getting distracted with everything else going on around you..believe me I did just that to realize once I did get back to the training, Kyle not only covered everything, but I also realized I was jumping the gun.

Open one (1) tab with the video then open a second (2) tab with your wordpress so you can do exactly as he says . It will go surprisingly easier than you think.

To All Your Success,

Jim

P.S. I would like to invite you to a ground floor media site, where people control who and how you socialize with...not the norm for social media, as it is an invite only platform... go to my profile , under the right column you will see follow my links:
