Don't believe the hype.
Hello to all of my WA friends out in WA Land. I hope you are having a great day.
I have been helping my son today with his job applications and it struck me that he has started to believe the hype.
I am not good enough kept coming from his mouth, now I know that my opinion is one of bias but, I know he is good enough for the positions he is applying for.
One particular job was recommended to him via a colleague and he has a direct in with the organisation that the position is with. When we looked at the job application there was 4 elements that he could not do.
Immediately he said that he did not want to apply because he did not have the skills required. I stopped him in his tracks and read the job list out to him.
It turns out that he could do 80% of the jobs on the list plus he had extended skill sets in other areas that would benefit the organisation yet, he believed he was not good enough.
My son is an ICT technician who is just finishing his Level 3 Apprenticeship and in his spare time he is always playing with technology and building computers. This kid has a 3D printer in his bedroom.
Now I am a manager of a company and if someone applied to my organisation for a job position and they had 80% of the ideal skills I wanted, I would get them straight in for an interview.
Don't Believe the Hype
This is my point why believe that you are not good enough? There are so many people in this world that will do that for you and I can tell you now. The problem lies with them and not you.
My son has an IQ of 141 and he believes that he is not good enough for this position. The position is probably not good enough for him.
What to do
Believe in yourself. You are special and you have a unique set of skills and that makes you a benefit to any position that you put yourself forward for.
Have confidence in your skills and never let anyone tell you that you are not good enough.
Wake up and smell the coffee because someone else will get your dream job or your business customers.
I want my son to start a niche site
I actually think that my son should get his own website up online and start Affiliate Marketing. He has a brilliant skill set and he could quite easily blog a technical site. Hopefully he will wake up and smell the coffee soon.
And before you ask. Yes I have told him all of this.
WA gives us the opportunity to show the world how great we are. Our skills are out there for all to see. There are some truly amazing people here and for one reason or another we have all found ourselves here together and I think that is amazing.
Ask a question and it is answered
You get stuck and bang. Ask the question and someone knows, ask an opinion and you will get many given to you and this is brilliant if you are trying to balance something in your mind.
On top of this someone will always tell you.
YOU ARE GOOD ENOUGH
