Footing the Ladder

I just volunteered to foot the ladder for my next door neighbour.

He wants to get up to the first floor to paint his window and it's rather awkward in my street so a second person at the bottom is a sensible health and safety strategy!

At first my inner, selfish Peter was a bit miffed. I'm really keen to get stuck into my website, because I've only published one post so far this week, and standing at the bottom of a ladder for somebody else isn't really my idea of productive.

Then I thought, hang on, I can work with you guys at Wealthy Affiliate all night if I want to. In fact, the global nature of our community means there's always WA members somewhere in the world online needing, and willing to help 24/7.

So shame on me for being so selfish. I'm happy to foot the ladder for my neighbour, he's a lovely guy and would do the same for me, not that I'm planning on going up any ladders any day soon.

And think about it, in a way isn't footing the ladder what we do for each other here all the time?

Peter x

A great analogy Peter! Thank you for sharing.

Thanks for all your encouragement as always. But it does highlight an important point now that, here in the northern hemisphere at least, winter is creeping up on us.

Yes, keep an eye out for your neighbours, particularly the elderly and immobile because it's a scary time for many of them.

Paying it forward! In real life ... M

You definitely did the right thing. It's so easy to get involved in the online community and be really helpful there and forget to do the same for the people who physically live next door.

Good on you to recognise this!

Being a good neighbor is time well spent.

Yes we do, and paying it forward no matter what the circumstances; always left me with inner peace.

.....an act of kindness always pays.

Pay it forward, works no matter what the circumstance. Good for you!

You're so right! Tea break :)

We most certainly do, Peter! That's what I wrote about last night. Now, my friend, get over there and foot that ladder for the neighbor!

He doesn't need me til this afternoon Carla (it's lunchtime here) so I'm making the most of a little 'extra' time and getting stuck into another post! :)

I have to get stuck in another job for which I have a noon deadline. Be back soon. Good luck with the post, Peter!

Go girl!

It should be and generally is, great comparison. Yesterday for me it was digging out concrete posts for my much older neighbours...what the world should be about. Nice one, Tim
