All of the above help but the main way to get people to join your list is to offer them a reason to sign up. Giving away something like an Ebook for example, will do wonders for getting sign ups.
Thanks for your comment, Shawn, good idea. One problem is to find something to offer. A short eBook isn't hard to scratch up by oneself but making it relevant and interesting for a lot of people is difficult, one needs a good idea for it.
Depending on the niche, I would write a how to ebook myself. They do not need to be very long and just offer something that has value.
They can be produced for free.
I know Kyle addresses this issue in the boot camps later lessons.
