I have just received some feedback from a commenter on my site that says the layout looks strange.

Hi Martyn,
I looked at your site and the header is taking up most of your reading space. The Header is almost half of the page and because it doesn't move it makes it really hard to see the info.
I would suggest you change it so the header is not frozen.

Hiya Dinh. What are you viewing it on? It looks fine on my laptop and I have a mobile responsive theme so it should (lol) be ok. Thanks - Martyn

I am viewing it on chrome on my laptop.

I also checked on iPad and it's the same thing as my laptop.

I am viewing on my MacBook and it is the same for me.

Yes, I had a similar experience as this person commented. Even if I scroll all the way down the page it seems to show only half of the content, and it shows two menus.

It is strange. Occasionally when I check out my site only some of the images load. I found that clearing the browser cache sorts it out. Maybe that was the issue that was reported, their browser cache was too full. It can cause some really bizarre behaviour - Martyn

Yeah maybe that's it.

I think the site looks good, loads quickly, your content is great. I'd agree with icwildbill07 about the social media buttons, when I read the blog about Baby Sleeping Tips I see them at the top of the blog as well as at the side. Good luck with the site, I really like your logo. Clare

Thanks Clare. I will remove it, it does look a bit much :D

Site looks really good to me. Clean and easy to follow. Have you compressed your image files to ensure quick loading? I found that helped with the load speeds on my site.

All my images are small jpgs for faster loading - I hope :)

Was that you, as a baby??
Cool site!

Lol, no. I have brown eyes and I don't think colour was around in those days :P

everything seems fine to me you have a nice site

Thanks Katie

Looks great ...I would take the social bookmarks off left side off page since it cuts out part of your content..." it's distracting". Put them on tha bottom of page or somewhere else...otherwise your doing fine...just my opinion...

Cheers Bill

It all looks good to me Martyn.

Thanks for taking the time to have a look Ken. Much appreciated - Martyn

It looks fine to me, Martyn - and it loaded quickly too! I think your commenter may mean that you have to scroll down to see the 'Welcome...' heading. Maybe that would be better positioned higher up, over the cot picture, so that there is less 'pink wall' and you see it straight away?

Thanks Colin. Maybe that was it. The featured image on the home page was a bit large so I have removed it so that you can see content straight away.

Appreciated - Martyn

Show us the URL so we can load it into our browser and we will take a look.

OMG - What a silly mistake. Thanks for giving me the heads up Bill. I'll edit it now - Martyn

Just a bit of curiosity really. How many tabs do you have open on your browser? I currently have about 30 tabs open in conjunction with a session manager.

as many as it needed to do my job.

It would seem that most of us have lots of tabs and or windows open. I do find shockwave flash to eat the ram so keep FB open on another browser - I use PaleMoon for that. I also use Tabs Outliner to keep a history of my tabs in case anything goes a bit screwey, as Windows never has a hiccup eh? lol

Sometimes I have 7 or 8 open at one time. It just depends on what I need at the moment.
Marilyn

I typically have 12-15 opened. currently only 5, but am gearing down for the night.

12 currently. When the tabs get full I open a new browser window. But I do have 12 GB RAM so my computer copes with it most of the time.

Hello, I currently have 11 open but it is a lite day. LOL!.. I can have up to 20 open at a time. I might even have more than one computer on at a time so the tabs and windows might double. It depends on what I am doing. Having enough RAM is a critical must to keep things moving along quickly. Dave.

I only have two open at the moment.

I needed to open my web browser again because the first was full, so I have too many tabs open ...

I have 9 'pages' open (I don't use tabs, just new windows). But I'd probably have more open once I'm doing real work, not just doing the training :)

At the moment I have 5 tabs open, but I am closing up, normally, during working time, I do have 20-30 tabs open

I have been a bit slow in following the lessons and developing my site for various reasons. I would like to know if this affects the long term goal. I don't mind taking it slo

The speed of training is up to you and how quick you want to build your business, you will still succeed how quickly is up to you

Thank you everyone - I feel the pressure is off a bit now.

Leo has your answer. we all work at different speeds for whatever reasons.
That's what's so good about Wealthy Affiliate training, there is no time scale you have to adhere to. Some take a few months, others take a few years. :)

I suppose the short answer would be "Yes".
BUT
I believe going slower and doing things methodically, is better than racing along with a half baked site.
Just my take on things.
-Theuns

Taking time is not a problem it is better to fully understand what you are doing rather than rushing it and missing things

I know how you feel Iam very time poor and sometimes I feel I'm getting nowhere. I spend some time every day here at WA. I have to delete the emails I feel not necessary. Just to get through them. Its all steady steady, and I will get there.
Lindon

In short - "not one bit"

Work things at your own pace. This not a race - it's a marathon.

As long as you're taking positive steps towards your goals each day - no matter how big or small you'll be just fine and you will achieve your goals

I believe in you
Leo

Thank you. I have some issues that prevent me from doing things on a daily basis, although I a always planning, so that is good to now. Many thanks - Martyn

Can only endorse what Leo said above. I have been learning and working around that principle. Sure, time is money.... but not in this case. I like taking baby steps and learning this "craft" in and out. Cause I am positive, this is something I will be doing for years to come.

No it wont affect your goal. It will just take you slightly longer to achieve it. As long as you do what you can however long it takes you are progressing towards your end goal

Thanks everyone. It's taking longer than I expected

I am with Steve:)

Slow progress is better than none. You should try to publish at least once a week if you can.

I am having some major OCD issues with my site theme so thought it best to start developing my site offline whilst still adding content. I am only on Course 3 Lesson 2 at the m

I now have it set up and wow, I am going great guns - cheers folks :D

I have WAMP & WordPress installed on localhost. I would be lost without it.

I followed these instructions from this video to install https://youtu.be/eDawpgb0JQI

If you have a free domain available, you can use it to build a test site. Do an Export from your original site then Import it to your test site. You can load any theme you want and test to your heart's content without effecting your original site.

WAMP is good if you want to install WordPress on your local laptop of desktop.
It is a bit tricky to do.....

be sure to research the installation procedures, some things need to be edited in the process. once you complete your site, it can be uploaded to a domain you own.

Does anyone use offline development for their sites?

Hi everyone,

I have just deleted all directories, files, databases from my Hostgator account and set the DNS to WA within GoDaddy and I am now getting the HTTP 500 problem

A quick update for anyone who is looking.

Propagation of the name servers seems to have gone quicker than expected and my site is now live and I can log in. Will start sticking some content on it hopefully tomorrow as I have some already prepared.

Nice and quick - cheers WA.

Onwards and upwards. Now to watch some Game of Thrones with a beer and the missus.

Enjoy your weekend folks

Martyn

Yes, that is probably the issue. In any case, you will need to wait 24 hours before anybody will be willing to look for other issues for you. I speak from experience. : )

Yeah, cheers Greg.

Might as well make the most of the UK sunshine here in Wales. maybe a visit to the beach pub for a cheeky one :)
