Super blood moon lunar eclipse happening right now!

Last Update: January 20, 2019

I nearly missed it - don't forget to look up from your laptops and screens and look out the window folks - it's an amazing night out there! But I think it's Northern Hemisphere, dunno how some of you guys will fare globally in other parts!

And they are all saying different times, some say from 2.34 am GMT and some say an hour later 3.34am, right up till 6.35 or 7.35 GMT...anyone getting up early or staying up late will get it then. I'm sure there'll be some great pics tomorrow.

Back in 1999 I actually did miss a major total solar eclipse working hard on the computer, it was during the day and I peeked up from the screen for a second thinking hm it's a bit dark out there and back to work again...duh, crazy.

I can see the moon already with a dark shadow across it, apparently it will go black then red, last one for at least 10 years - let's report back on all the success and fun for the next one then! Meanwhile get your mitts off the keyboard and pull back those curtains anyone still up in the Northern Hemisphere...or who is up early

ps when I was in the forest earlier on it was dark but very bright with a full moon and I did not know about the eclipse till someone in Norway shared it on facebook but I did wonder what on earth was happening because I'd never seen so many deer on the move, travelling in herds in different parts of the forest - the animals are so much more in tune!

Hi,LMM
. I went out to look at the eclipse, and missed it because it was in totality. Really wanted to stay out and watch it, but it's waaay too cold tonight...wind chill is -3 degrees Fahrenheit. BRR! I'm gonna take a peek out the window to see if I can see it beginning to return. Really wanted to see it when it turned red.

We had a total solar eclipse here in August. It was so exciting. I was surprised that the birds stopped singing, thinking that it was evening. It didn't get totally dark like night, but more like twilight where we were watching it. The corona around the sun was so amazing when the sun was completely gone. A friend told me that where she was watching it, there was a beehive nearby. All the bees went in the hive, and came back out when the sun did. Guess they must have thought it was a short night!

WOW that's amazing HRH!

Well I stayed up and just at the end when it was getting spectacular guess what - clouds took over and covered it all!! I know a few others around Ireland had the same experience, having waited up. Though honestly if the moon wasn't directly in front of the window I would not be going out in the ice for it! Peeps have nice pics on facebook today!

That is a great visual about the solar eclipse! Thanks for filling me in on what one is like....when birds go silent like that during the day it is always very eerie. And that is amazing about the bee behaviour!!

Yes, it was very eerie, but exciting as well. Isn't it amazing? I'm sure that the indigenous people of the world thought that God was punishing them by taking the sun or moon away way back when.

it's still happening for another hour or two, it's covered now, pure black which is amazing because it was full and really bright

There's something enchanting about a moon of a different color whether its red, green or even yellow; some might associate that with dark forces but I think its a thing of unique beauty.

lol really that fast?! It is covered here at the moment, it did cover pretty fast, maybe inside an hour and a half but they say it's going to get red sometime in the next hour or two, it's already 5.45am here, just finished a post, need some matchsticks for the eyelids at this point!

Unfortunately its too cloudy here where I live to see the moon. I think it would be really cool to see if it was clear.

Of course, a storm rolled in here today and we can't see the moon. Oh, well, at least I know it is up there.
