Should an Antivirus Pop-Up be Showing Steps to #DeleteFacebook - What is Really Going on Here!

I got a pop-up tonight from my anti-virus, Avast, who normally don't contact me much at all except when they are trying to sell me an upgrade or I have a virus alert so I was very surprised to see a pop-up telling me to click to be shown steps to #DeleteFacebook !!?

When my antivirus tells me to do something I usually pay attention. But why on earth would this 'authority' on my computer be taking part in the delete facebook debate? Which actually now feels like a campaign against FaceBook. And a very unfair one at that. But what is the result of unfair tactics:

**Facebook is now turning into the underdog!**

And underdogs tend to do quite well! :D

But as usual it is not FaceBook I'm worried about, it is our network and reach that concerns me. Many members here have stated how FaceBook has given them traffic and money.

Here is a post I wrote recently showing 7 reasons NOT to delete FaceBook. The comments there are also interesting, including Kyle's ;)

I dont see FB going anywhere, although I do think what's happened has been a huge learning experience for all of us. While I was not a target, a few of my friends through friends were hit. What I have noticed is the new controls in place and that should provide some peace of mind to the ones nervous to embark on it. I won't delete my account, but I have upgraded all of my categories!

Hi RandiLee, I haven't taken a look at any of the new stuff they put in place yet or even thought of the categories, wanna do a training on that for us? :D

Mary that is a great idea! I'll work on that tomorrow..currently digging out of that wicked winter storm that blew thru here yesterday..Thank you for suggesting it!

Winter! Where are you? Spring certainly hasn't quite sprung yet in my neck of the woods here in Ireland, definitely dragging its heels!

Under another winter storm warning up to 8 inches of new snow expected over the next 30 hours...on the upside its suppose to be 60 by Sunday...let hope the warmth is headed your way as well :).

Thanks for sharing, Mary.

Thank you Roger, hope you are doing well :)

You're welcome, Mary. I am doing well, thanks.

That’s strange your ant-virus would do that. The thing is, everything connected to the internet has the ability to track and everything with a camera has the ability to watch, even though they may not have the right. If anybody is worried about privacy, you might have to completely disconnect and move of the grid! Lol!
Thanks,
Marcus

Yeah, sneaking up on people getting them to delete and maybe they don't know they are the ones losing out!

True, we can't even walk down a street without some camera recording us, or step outside our door without the chance of some satellite spying down on us, it's endless the ways, and it's almost like the cookie law, try using the internet without them, can't happen! But going back thousands of years or even just to more remote tribes today that haven't changed through time, privacy is a fairly modern concept, a luxury.

Great post, but I personally am not going to open a business account with FB only because with this stuff hitting the fan and more things are coming out you just don't know who to trust anymore.

Mary

I guess they can use their product any way they want to. And they may, like Musk and Playboy et al, delete their accounts if they wish. There is a justifiable outrage among ordinary punters and the tech community about FB’s information security practices.

But then also keep in mind that... Avast used to have a business relationship with FB. Then Avast endured its own scandal, after it was revealed they’d accidentally spread a Trojan to millions of their users. Oh and, BTW, they’re about to make a second attempt at an IPO on the London exchange.

So... I dunno. Timing? Zeitgeist?

Wait, that should be #zeitgeist, lol.

Oh and just for fun: “Don't forget to drink the water... humans like water.”

LOLOLOL!!!!

Ooh, well spotted Ivy! I had no idea!! Yikes!

They shouldn't get themselves involved in this, it's very childish to act upon this in this way, and besides that, all SM are tracking, you should delete them all, Facebook got a warning, but in the same time, Google is sending me their "NEW" privacy policy. It's only a good thing, things came out in the open.

Interesting, Loes! Google always just barely covers its ass, and probably took a lot to make them even do that!

Verrrry Interesting, LMM! HRH

Greetings and courtesies, HRH! :D

Have a great weekend, LMM!

I need FB, it's my overseas connection until I get back home.....

Good question and great feedback

Dang! I just clicked Like on Kyle's comment thinking that comments with 10 likes become featured comments (that's what used to happen). But it didn't work this time.

Nice try anyway, Marion! His comment sort of got lost in the thread and people are still asking, wish he'd marked it featured, I think they can do that too.

Yes, they can. Kyle, Carson and Jay sometimes have featured comments even before they get any likes :)
