EMF and our devices, looks like my mouse just bit me!

So my beloved old wired mouse died about a month back and living in rural Ireland there wasn't much selection when I needed one 'instantly', my local supermarket carried only their own brand - cheap and tacky but to my surprise worked and I forgot about 'getting a decent one' on amazon until now a pain that had been creeping up on me some weeks has got excruciating, it's at the base of the finger that sits top center of the mouse, right over that strong red light, and even a good night's sleep won't mend it, it just keeps getting worse and coincides exactly with the new mouse.

I had always insisted on getting 'wired' over 'wireless' as I'd always heard they were safer regarding electric fields so this took me by surprise - until I googled it and found myself on a site where people had actually built shields for inside their computer mice which eliminated the pain in the palm of their hands OMG. There are even 'safer' mice out there, so I'm disgusted these things are let loose on us without proper shielding as constant exposure to fields can change DNA and lead to cancer!

Yes yes our devices are sort of the big white elephant in the room that no one really wants to talk about, even now I'm not going to launch into the many things we in this industry should really be discussing for routine safety like:

  • What distance we should be from our laptops
  • What sort of cabling is actually considered safe regarding internet vs wifi
  • How one person got his home office professionally measured for EMF/EMR and his wireless mouse was emitting a stronger EMR field than his industrial sized wifi router, which he was supplied with by his phone company and really didn't need
  • How phone companies try to scare us into not turning off the wifi at night when really we can.
  • How there's only one video on youtube regarding EMF and the google home mini, and the results of what that is emitting in the guys bedroom are very scary if left on at night
  • Or some of the affiliate programs out there such as devices, shielding, and education

- just saying omg my middle finger is in trouble right now - my poor finger that I need and love so much and iis so dear to me and that these companies selling products have absolutely no respect for, and which we should propably all be holding right up at them!!!

It's my right hand, but sitecontent had this lefty image, see where your hand would be right over the mouse center, time to hold that up to the electronics peeps ;)

I'm probably lucky something 'visible' happened rather than let the continuous exposure ride on for months more causing potentially worse problems.

So now I'm in the market for safer computer and device options - great niche/s folks!

Mary

Update: I put tinfoil / aluminum foil to the Americans / over the mouse and simply ignored the scroll wheel, no pain at all - OMG! Though whatever got swollen at the base of the finger in the palm is still quite enlarged, it's like a joint, feels bony...but bigger than it should be

AND I spent $50 on a new mouse that looks like the ones we had 20 years ago...!! Well I had to order it in from the states, so postage in that...

Hi Mary....We are susceptible to many health issues by being online so often....eye concerns being a big one. Awareness is important so we can counteract the negative effects.
Debbie

You are so right Debbie about eye concerns being a big one - this crept up on me very recently, totally abused the eyes by all the time on the laptop doing sites and basically 'living online' and BOY do I notice my eyesight took a nosedive recently

I'm going to pickle myself in carrot juice but seriously much could be said on the topic of protecting and respecting our eyesight!!

Indeed....carrot juice is good...I also added supplements...lutein zeaxanthin, bilberry, Vitamin C, zinc...but I really feel we are playing with fire by being on screen all day...and with all the emfs we are exposed to....can't get away from it. I just keep surrounding myself with that protective White Light!

as in natural 'white' light? I've heard a lecture on the danger of LEDs too! Apparently moving the computer outside or at least to the window helps a bit

yes, will be getting in Eyebright from Christopher Original Formulas, heard a woman once say though that while she was doing carrot juices she had to keep changing her glasses as her eyesight kept improving! Then on http://herballegacy.com there's a story of one guy failed a pilot's eyetest so he spent 3 months taking a liter a day of carrot juice and passed next time round - I'm sure it's not the same for everyone but I think 3 months tlc for the eyes is in order in my case...

Thank you so much for spreading this message!
Laura

Hey Mary,
Thanks for sharing this!!! It can be alarming!!!

Tried and True

Elaine

Thanks Elaine, yes my finger is alarming and today I put tinfoil over the mouse as I had to use my computer while another one arrives and guess what - no pain at all! Although whatever 'bit' is at the base part of the finger inside the palm is still very enlarged and swollen, whether it's a joint or whatever...bony bit...anyway PROOF!!!

Hi Mary. I use a wireless mouse and after reading this may go and get a wired one.
Thanks for the information.
Peter

Well it seems hit and miss with the wired ones! My old logitech didn't cause me these problems but my eyes are sort of opened to it now, I'm doing a bit of research on what we can use to cover them. There is some conflicting advise out there now too...

I have been using a wireless mouse or in fact 3 of them over the past 10 years or more with no adverse effects.

I usually go for Logitech so they are not the cheapest but being left handed I find them a boon.

Derek

the mouse I was using before this was logitech, their cheapest ones but still caused to problems, this one however is really dangerous - with those cheap supermarket brands you never quite know which corners they cut to cough up the cheap prices! We expect certain levels of safety but in society now we are seeing those eroded in every industry yet we keep naively assuming they are going to be there, clearly not!

I like it

Thanks Mpumi.
