I have just decided to retire - meaning I am no longer working for someone else - after having spent most of my working life in software sales, services, and product development (not as programmer). Now, although I have a pretty good retirement 'nest egg' I do need to support myself with some extra income so I can have more motorcycle adventures!
Since 1988, I have lived in the San Francisco Bay area but the first 'career' I had was as a geologist, in Nevada working for gold and silver mining companies. I got into 'hi tech' when we started having children. However, now I am recently divorced (after 32 years of marriage) and sold my half of our home to my (ex) wife. Our two kids are adults; my son is is married, and he has 4 children - soon to be 5.
During my hi tech career I worked for small software companies and rose to be VP of my last company. Two years ago I and two other guys started a company, which depleted a lot of my cash reserves. I am fully vested now so I'm leaving that company to work for myself.
I/we had a 34' sailboat on SF Bay for 10 years. During that time I also got licensed by the Coast Guard as a "6 Pack" Captain, which allowed me to take out up to 6 paying customers. The boat was sold with the divorce, so I got a motorcycle. Now, I love touring northern California, the Sierras, the western US (and Canada and Mexico) on my bike. It's a 2014 Suzuki Vstrom 1000 - a so-called "Adventure" bike because with it I can go off road. I plan to make that my primary niche. I already have a You Tube channel for Motorcycle vlogs which I'll link to my site to include my ride reports (with photos and videos), bike and gear reviews, etc. I am thinking of expanding the site to also include some sailing adventures, should I take to the water again. Basically, the idea is to have a site with multiple 'what I am doing with my retirement' themes. What do you think of that? Any suggestions?
