Adapting to Change

As most of you know, I am on maternity leave right now - so for me that means that I am alone during the day with the baby as my husband is at work.

I love my daily routine with Marlow. I look forward to the days that it is just her and I, and the business of the weekend has settled down.

Since joining Wealthy Affiliate I have gotten myself in to some sort of a schedule everyday that allows me to have some time to write and work on my site without any distractions, leaving my nights for family time once everybody is home.

Now, I am really not that great at dealing with change. I never have been, and probably never will be. It makes me really uncomfortable if my routine is disrupted, and I start to feel like I am drowning a bit if I am not in control. I think it has to do with part of my recovery - maybe I will never know...

I should probably look in to that one day....

Anyways,

My husband got switched to night shift this week. He is now working from 7pm to 4am instead of the other way around.

It is only Tuesday and I already feel uneasy, and exhausted. I am not complaining, it is just different for me.

I was worried I wouldn't be able to write or work on my site during this time because I was going to have to go back to taking over all the night time wake ups and yada yada without an extra set of hands.

And then..

Something happened. I shifted my thinking. The beauty of this program, and one of the amazing things about Wealthy Affiliate and working a business online is that you can work WHENEVER YOU WANT.

It doesn't have to be during the usual 9-5 if that doesn't work for you.

It is now 7pm here and the house is quiet. The baby is in bed, and here I am starting right back up where I left off as if nothing was disrupted at all.

Being able to adapt to change in an ever changing world is a skill, and one I didn't realize that I had in me.

It all started with shifting my thoughts, and suddenly that drowning feeling dissapears and all is bright again.

-HAPPY TUESDAY-

You are doing great! The fact that you are a parent will give you flexability even when your don't realize it! LOL Babies tend to RULE your time and you are making time for EVERYTHING! Way to go, HIGH 5 and HUGS to you, Montana!

Congratulations on your new baby. Part of the reason I am so excited to do this work it to have the freedom to work when I want and from where I want. Take advantage of that and enjoy it too!

Congratulations on the birth of your little baby. You will do well at WA because you work to a plan. Jim

Having a new baby is such a challenging time. It sounds like you are doing really well - so aware of what is going on for you, and what you need. That is such a big part of it hey...awareness.

Remember to take time for yourself - rest. Do you meditate?

I love hearing about your shifts and new insights. Well done!

I do! Every morning! Yoga & Meditation before I start my day :D

Hi Montana, that shift from day to nights can be a hard adjustment to make. The more we get into this online journey the more we develop and in some cases in ways that we don't even recognize at the time. It is amazing what we can do by shifting focus or perspectives. Enjoy your maternity leave, and best wishes creating those family routines.

Yay! I am so glad you are feeling better about things! You should do well with the time to be at home no matter what hours of the day or night you get to work on your business.

Stay focused and take things slow, the site will come along, and so will the little one :)

In other words, put the effort in when you can and try not to push yourself too much.

Alex

I wish you prayers and blessings in making this adjustment Montana!

That's a tough shift for your husband. Hopefully he gets used to it quick. And you are totally right, you can always find the perfect time for WA :)

Good luck my friend!!!

My wife and I are going to face that issue soon enough, with her staying in the am shift and me going to overnights or pm shift. This is the only way one of us will be home with the little one when she is born, as child care is 1300 a month and with people whom we don't trust (nothing against them). It is a tough gig

Totally get it! Daycare costs are just outrageous!
