First Content to My Very First Website!

I feel a certain sense of satisfaction. After struggling with it, I finally finished content to my very first website. Yet, there is a niggling sense of dissatisfaction with the product because I do not think it is good enough! I think this may emanate from the niche I have chosen. Perhaps it is too broad? What else can I add to digital photography? Though I have taken pictures for as long as I can remember, I cannot claim technical expertise. Yet I have taken what family and friends have considered good pictures over the years as I captured events: the growing years of my children; family gatherings; holiday outings and so forth.

But I love taking photos so much that I thought I might use this love for photography to capture successes of family and friends. I thought maybe, just maybe, by capturing some successes and sharing, this might be a source of inspiration for others to change their circumstances to a life of success.

Is it worth a try? After all, this is only one of many websites I will write about activities I am passionate about.

I wonder.

Hi Mojalefa,

I look forward to visiting your site. Keep in mind that most good writers are really good re-writers. The re-writing gets easier with time and application. Think of what happens when one learns to play the drums. In time one learns that by striking a certain part of the drum in a particular way, one can produce a calming, peaceful, music. Strike a different part of the drum and one produces cheerful, festive, sound.

It's the mastering of theses different strikes on different parts of the drum that makes one an effective drummer. But this mastery only comes from constant practice. The same is true with writing. The more you write the better you become at it.

As for the photography, that's a big advantage because you have developed a very valuable skill: telling a story without words. This may sound like a contradiction of my message above, but it isn't. More and more people are getting their information visually. This means that bloggers, even those that write well, have to understand how to tell a story without words because that will enable them to put their visuals into context for the visitor.

So you see, Mojalefa, your interest in photography has already put you far ahead of most bloggers who will take longer than you to understand how to tell a story without words.

Thabo

I sure would like to visit your first site.

Thanks Much!

Great post Mojalefa, thank you for sharing.

I empathize with the feelings you expressed in your post. You owed it to yourself to try and you did it! That courageous step will inspire others, like me. Thanks for sharing this.

I think enjoying what you are doing means you are already half-way to being successful. As an academic, you are probably very self-critical, much more critical than the visitors to your website are likely to be.

Trust your family when they say that you take good pictures. And if you can give advice to people who want to take good photographs but don't know much about photography, then you will probably get a good following.

Thanks, Rick. Much appreciated.

Hey Mojalefa. Congratulations on your first post!

I remember my first post and my first YouTube video. I wasn't happy with either one also but I have decided to leave them up so I can see how much I have improved.

I feel so much more comfortable creating content, and videos, now so I want to encourage you to keep following the training and keep on creating.

It get's easier.

Rick
