What did they do that I didnt?
I'm not sure about you, but I'm stuck.
Stuck. Just another one of the thousands of others looking for an escape from the prison of the 9 to 5 grind. That trap we all feel like we are in where we exchange some hours of our time for a few bucks. The wonderful feeling you get when you examine your life and realise that there is no escape from the chains of your mortgage, the financial responsibilities of raising a family and the fact that this picture is not going to change for the next 20 years or more. Wonderful! Your life is all planned out.
You start sinking into the gloom of despair as you do the school drop-off and wonder why you are the one driving the 15-year-old corolla while other dads are driving the BMWs and Mercs. Not to equate possessions to self-worth, but come on, who wants to be driving a 15-year-old corolla hatchback!
You think to yourself,
- 'How did they get so lucky?'
- 'What did they do to make it when I didn't?'
- 'Are they really that smart or did they just get a lucky break?'
And then that annoying voice in your brain starts to talk commonsense
- "Nothing comes for free", they say.
- "There is no such thing as a free lunch!"
- "You just have to work at it."
The amazing thing is, I find myself surrounded by the masses that are all in the situation I am in. The dreamers that are looking for an escape; the dream of freedom to work where and when you want. Getting out of bed to the sound of 'chin-chings' as money floods into the bank account from one of the latest online ventures.
Call me a cynic, but I can't help but wonder if those people that sell their 'Follow my 7 step guide to make your ...." are all actually in my exact position. Depressed, trapped and selling the dream.
In any event, I come to WA with an open (but tired) mind. Willing to suck in as much knowledge as I can, and like the hundreds of thousands before me, look to become a master of my own destiny! *swelling synphonic music playing in the background*
One day, hopefully in the not so distant future, you will see some photos of me living the dream, relaxing and blogging on a tropical beach (well, it will probably be a Calvin clein model. I do have to sell the story, and I'm hardly instagram material)
I will have my own 'Follow my 1.25 steps to financial freedom' training program and it will just be perfect. I will have 487,340 followers, all begging me to tell them my secret. I will be number 5 on WA and the sage of affiliate marketing. I can see it so clearly now, it's going to be so fantastic....
The grinding sound of reality to the tune of Thanos pounding my skull.
"Oh crap, it's 9pm already and I have to prepare the kids for school tomorrow and drop them off before work!"

Great article. Believe me at times I feel that way. Although I have a successful art business I started from scratch and built up, my commute to various locations is long and gas guzzling. I would love to get “the dream” up and running. I guess it’s important to stay motivated. WA seems like a solid company with a wonderful supportive community and awesome training. Here’s to keeping our eyes on the dream to make it reality!
how long have you been on WA Elaine?
