Create a child theme, that way when everything updates on the original theme it won't effect any of your content... It's pretty easy to do, just Google it for your theme & follow the instructions... Hope this helps...
I guess I do need to do that but it sounds so complicated! I will have to figure this one out and, if I have to change themes, I will create a child theme in case of future issues.
It's not as hard as it sounds, use filezilla to create it..
Let me know if you need any help...
My first thoughts is your theme, change your theme and see what happens. It's always good to have two themes loaded on your site anyway as a back up.
I hope you find the answer... I googled it and theme is also a possibility, though I hope not. Maybe you can also ask the developer? I'm clueless, but I did see that you aren't the only one who has had this problem.
I googled and saw plenty of the same problem but never any answer. I messaged the developer of the theme so maybe I will get an answer. I have worked on it for days! If one of the plugins isn't the answer then I guess I will have to change themes. That was the only answer my support ticket got after replying to the email they sent to ask the community. That just sat wrong with me because I have never submitted a support ticket and everyone has always bragged about how helpful it was. I guess we both were caught on an off night. Going to leave it alone for now so I can get some sleep and come back in a better mood. I will be asking for prayers for my sanity and patience if I have to change themes again. I'm about ready to cry at that thought! :(
Maybe send another ticket and tell them it's not a plugin issue, do they have any suggestions. It doesn't sound right to me either...
I did that last night and asked if it could be the theme. They told me to changed themes. Nightmare in Missouri talk there!
The reason I had to switch themes is because of bugs I was having with the old one. I was getting duplicate code for all of my plugins so it broke features when connecting to social media tools. I tried everything I could think of to get rid of the extra code, did a bunch of research to find a fix and tried to contact the theme creators. Nothing worked. It was a premium theme upgrade too but it seems that the creators have given up on supporting it. I haven't gotten a reply to the support tickets I sent them on their website and it's been months. The theme also wasn't responsive for mobile devices so it was time for a change.
If you do have to change themes, Virtue has been a really nice free one for me. It's really customizable and works nicely on mobile. There are tutorials online for it too. I'm thinking about getting the premium version but mostly because I want to support their nice work. They don't make you feel like you have to upgrade like some themes do. Pretty much everything I've wanted is in the free version. Of course, I'm going to contact them first to make sure they are still supporting it if I do decide to upgrade this time lol.
I noticed that my social media tools also quit working. URGH! I've been working on this for two days and I still think I am going to have to toughen up and change themes. I will check out Virtue. I'm kind of upset because I paid for this theme but the developer is not responding to emails.
Did you add any new plugins before this happened?
I recently changed themes and noticed none of my blog posts were recognizing the spaces between paragraphs. Everything was running together like one long paragraph. So the other day, I went in and added in bunch of HTML page breaks to all my blogs because that was the only way to separate the paragraphs again. Then today, I deactivated a few plugins that I wasn't using or didn't need for now and there were suddenly really big spaces between my paragraphs on my blog posts. I had to go back in and manually remove all the HTML page breaks again lol.
I'm not sure what plugin was causing it but I'm going to have to keep an eye out for what happens when I activate new ones. I know a lot of them haven't been updated to work with the newest version of WordPress either so it's something you might check. I could be way off but I have noticed there are many bugs in WordPress land.
I had not added any plugins but they have updated. I am going to deactivate all of them tomorrow and then add them back one by one to see if they are the culprit. I have to sleep and leave it be right now because I am so frustrated.
I'm thinking possibly the theme update. I don't even want to think about what that is going to entail.
First, what changes have you made to your website just prior to it messing up? A theme update? A new plugin? Update any plugins? Install anything?
I have no answer for you, but if someone does not come to your aid quickly I would pm Carson!

I want to download charts onto my site for parents to be able to download. Examples of what I am wanting are baby feeding charts, growth charts, teething charts, etc. Does any
Thank you Loes. The biggest thing I have worried about is using someone's copyrighted material. If you read the terms and conditions of some sites, it says you are allowed to only use for personal use, not commercial or websites.
Yeah, that's tricky, You can let you inspirate by those chart's design them your self, and take a picture, and set them on your site
after you search images, click on search tools below searchbar, then select usage rights and select labeled for reuse
Is there a way to check images that I have downloaded already if they are labeled for reuse?
You might try Microsoft online templates for Word and Excel. They include a lot of things created by users too. Even if it's not exactly what you want, it will be in a format you can change.
oh yes, had forgot about that. That would be a great place to get blank ones and they're free most of the time, even when you go online to download.

Not sure if they have exactly what you need. I did cursory glance. I started with google search for growth charts and just kept changing words until I started weeing results I thought would fit. Then same thing for feeding charts, etc.
Well, I know the one was a pdf so that one shouldn't be a problem at all. I don't know about plugins for that. I imagine there's a way to automate the production when someone requests, if no other way than by email.
Some of the pages I peeked at - the charts were free to their readers. If nothing else you could write to some of those websites and find out their source.
I don't know where to find them ready made, but you can make your own at chartgo.com. Kyle just covered that in one of my recent Bootcamp classes.

I am trying to change my site to a theme that has a left side menu or widget. The ones I have found seem to take more knowledge than I have so I don't know what to do.
'judebanks' directions, find the theme you want.....together we will all help ensure you get all the direction you need ... don't underestimate what you are capable of ..... we are winners who help each other!
Don't worry. You will learn it. I personally chose a theme that required investing time and efforts from me to learn the things, and I did it and I am not sorry for my choice. I learned a lot of things such as creating videos etc. You need to always learn something new if you want to succeed.
True. I'm now to the point I need to figure out how to change the picture size on my homepage and add more blog posts there. I'm working on it :)
The WP Twenty Fourteen theme has a left sided menu.
To find others, In your WP admin area:
Go to > Appearances >Themes>Add new
Select the menu tab "Feature Filter". Tick 'Left Sidebar'. Don't filter anything else, just that one item.
Click on Apply Filter.
The themes you will be shown will have left sidebars, or the option to select a left sidebar in the customization.
Choose one that best fits your niche. I'm afraid it is just a matter of picking one that feels right and becoming familiar with it. ~Jude
I found a theme I like, it's just that when I try to switch it from my original theme, it is so messed up that I don't know where to start.
Sorry, I misunderstood you to mean that you can't find one that you can handle, so my instruction was how to find another one...lol.
Is that for your babies site? I can see an issue with the images in the slider and some other images. I'm guessing you might need to use a regenerate thumbnails plugin and adjust the image sizes to a standardized size.
The theme developer, Rohit Tripathi, offers support. I suggest you get his advice first in the relevant thread for your theme.

You are absolutely right! Thanks so much, that is exactly what I need. I'm going to be working on that for the next few...hours? :) Thank you again.
Go to the themes section of the admin panel. Click on "add new theme" then in the search bar type in something like "left side bar theme" and hit your enter button if nothing pops up right away. If you can't figure it out from there PM me and we'll get a chat started so we can be looking at the same thing at the same time.
I need to know how to back up my site and transfer. I like the theme TIMES and I've set up a test site using it but I haven't done anything with it.
Under the tools in dashboard is the export and import all content. Export to your computer and then import later. but it saves and backs up your website. Its all in code, but it works
It can be a little confusing, but it will backup the parent theme, and you can make changes in the child theme, but always have the css of the parent theme to fall back on... Do a search for child themes and try it... Let me know if you need any help if you try to make one...

I'm wondering if I can covert a couple of my blogs to pages under a parent page without losing all the comments, etc.
Yes yes and yes! I couldn't do it alone that's for sure :) I have learned not to try to change things two days after surgery because my patience level is nil!
Oh no. I'm so sorry, I didn't know you've had surgery. I will pray for a speedy recovery. God bless you sweet girl.

Okay, I need to clarify. My main menu can't be changed using my current theme and I really like my theme. If I make a custom menu, you can't see the menu tabs until you hover over them.
What I want is to move some of my blog posts under parent pages I already have on my menu. That's easy to do when I've added a page but I can't figure out how to do it with a blog post. Does that makes any sense at all?
go to menus
Then click on screen options on top of screen, right side
Check the box "post"
Then you will see posts as choice to add to menu in menus
John
You had better be glad you are not sitting next to me or you would have just gotten the biggest hug and kiss!!!!! Thank you so much!!!! Sanity has returned!!!!
I asked Jay this question and he doesn't recommend it. I wouldn't do it! I would just write a new page and link it to my post.
Can you make drop down menus up top and then put your posts under it? You should have them intact. I did with my realmoneynoscams.com site. Click on the stuff at the top and see if that's what you want. You do a blank page with a # in the custom link box and then you drag each URL under it you want. There's a bootcamp lesson on it. If this is what you want, I'll dig it up for you.
When ever you create a blog it should be a post. Your pages are your main site directory like about me, home page, privacy, disclaimer, at least three categories also. If it is none of these then I would not worry about it.
Yes you can create s page and then add the post yo it with a dtop down menu. Here is a video I created for this.

I hope it helps you out

That was when I was using the pageline theme on my site. But since then I have changed to iconic one now.
You can put a post on your menu-bar of your website, as a page without converting it to a page, and not loose your comments. https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/training/creating-a-secondary-custom-menu-in-wordpress-when-your-theme-doesn-t-support-it/adding-a-custom-menu-to-the-widget-are
Depends on the theme you are using - most of them you can go to the Customize option (top left corner when you are viewing the site, under the site name - you need to be signed in as admin). There you can have an option at the bottom to say which page is your blog post. If you look at my example - you will see all my blogs are appearing under the "Marketing Blog" page - this is the link: http://domaincostclub.reviews/marketing-blog
Let me know if it does not solve your question.
You can copy and paste to a post, but you'd lose your comments; if you have a lot of comments, then it's probably not worth doing it.
If you do you will need to forward the old address to the post to the new address of the page. Otherwise the old address will show a 401

When I first began making my website, I got a little excited by all the affiliate programs that accepted me. A few days ago, I looked at my list and realized I now have 45 affi
Thank you all for your input. I made major changes today. I centralized my affiliate links to three pages under my parent page Help Me Play. I also took down all of them from my side widget. I am using only ones that I have reviewed. It has made a big difference and I feel better about my site. Thank you again!
I think you have way too many in your sidebar. Consider placing selected ones at the bottom of posts relating to the post as best as possible, and not have the sidebar cluttered up all the time.
Remember the user experience and providing great and helpful content should be the main focus. You can also place a link within the text body naturally, focusing on a product related to the post.
Also please check your site with AdBlock enabled in your browser. You will be surprised at what happens. Lots of people use this technology now, and some text links in the sidebar would help you in this regard.
Wow! Big difference and I like the way my site looks without the ads. That just convinced me! Thank you Ben!
You are very welcome.
I only use it for testing my sites. There is support page here: http://support.getadblock.com/kb
Don't forget to turn it off after tests so you will see ads on other sites though.
I just listened to the training that Vicki referred to and have changed my thoughts. I hope you will listen to it.
I watched it as well. I think I will be centralizing the affiliate page but he didn't really address using links or banners. Maybe I should just review a product from each site before I add them to the page.
I just went through your site and because I have a 2 year old granddaughter, I loved it. YOu have a lot of affiliates, but I didn't feel overrun with them because they were all different and interesting.
Really? My thought when I was putting them on was that people like to see the pictures of what they are going to research or purchase. That's why I use banners more than just links. I am still wondering if I need to have them all in the side widget or on one page.
Here is a link from Kyle to explain that hope it helps Vicki
